That picture was featured in Monalisa Smile.

I didn't understand why it was good then, and I'm not sure I understand why it is good now.

Anyone care to explain it to me, please?

I like my Avatar...also used for my desktop.

"Flaming June" is the title.

Art doesn't need explanation. Art just is. A piece may exist simply to invoke emotions in a person, or it may exist as a statement as well.

One of my favorite, and definitely favorite artist...

Christ, I could splatter paint better than that first one. I'm with Nakiro, I don't quite understand the attraction. Any sub-80 IQ person could do such a painting.

Just because it looks like a close up of some coleslaw doesn't mean it's bad. Art means different things to different people. Hell I'm a big fan of the impressionist era so I don't have much room to talk.

Matthias Grunewald's The Crucifixion is one of my favorites. It's haunting.

I like art by Salvador Dali. It just so happens my boyfriend paints in the same style...lucky me. Go surrealism!

Of course, my all time favorite painting is "The Scream" by Edvard Munch.

Art is a personal thing. The painting talks to you or doesn't.

That first one speaks to me. It's all like, "The guy who painted me was a lazy bastard and not deserving of your love." and then I was all like, "Fo' sho'."

There was a Munch exhibit in Boston a few years ago.....the Scream obviously wasn't there, cause that's under lock and key or something....

but there was this one painting of his that I literally just stood in front of for a half hour. Let me see if I can find it...

Gah, I can't. It was a picture of a sunrise, white background with..yeah.

Les Meninas by Diego Velasquez

Not because of how it looks but because of its complexity of perspective. If your interested in it you can search the web and read Michel Foucault's "The Order of Things." The second chapter is about it.

While that particular piece is not to my taste, either, if you really believe that any fool could create it, try to create a copy of it yourself. ;)

HarmNone knows it is more difficult than it looks to be
