View Full Version : Archaeologists Unearth Shrine

Post From the Officials
Archaeologists in central Elanith have unearthed a small shrine that dates back to the time of the Ur-Daemon War. It has three outer chambers which are ringed by obelisks bearing the marks of each Arkati and lesser spirits. Guildmasters of the Cleric Guild has examined the obelisks and determined them to be of a spiritual nature. They are strongly encouraging all clerics and paladins to make preparations for a pilgrimage to the site.
Due to the remote location, atop a mountain near Zul Logoth, the Cleric Guild has instructed all clerics to collect alms over the next few days in an attempt to purchase portals to aid in the travel. Funds are to be given to Theologians, who will handle the delivery of the silver and negotiation attempts with the Chronomages for their service.

Additionally Theologians will be traveling from town to town starting this week.

..and people who can 2x in brawling are supposed to be able to switch to monks.. why not include them? (basically just make it a more generalized "everyone" instead of "clerics and paladins")
Also.. why put it in the arkati folder.. *shrug*

Was there any kind of announcement that he had arrived? How did he act around clerics/paladins?
What was his name?
..and what I'm asking about specifically is what Estild is alluding to with some kind of event where these NPC's explained more details than what's been posted.
His comment makes me feel like we're jumping into a storyline halfway through :|
As much as I'm curious because of "cleric" stamped all over everything..
I'm not going to go running to Zul Logoth without a better timeframe OR try to beg my way into a storyline already in progress.
[EDIT: Another GM posted and it SOUNDS like maybe they're referring to an interaction that occurred very recently and will repeat itself in other towns.]

I had only walked into the market and he was talking with people, er...people were talking to him. His name was Inaok? something like that. I am certain there was no announcement of his arrival because he was just there, taking silvers, trying to answer question but having no real answers then he was on his way to Icemule. This is not the middle of anything yet imo. The announcement was just posted this morning? This is the first NPC I've seen or heard of that has to do with it. I think the 'event' that is referred to is on the way.

You see Theologian Inoak the Archdruid.
He appears to be a Giantman of the Maeramil Clan.
He is tall and appears to be in the flower of life. He has silver-flecked crystal green eyes and tanned skin. He has long, flowing golden brown hair. He has a weathered face and broad shoulders.
He is in good shape.
He is holding a dark brown gnarled faewood crosier in his right hand.
He is wearing a cedar-framed gold leaf symbol, a crystal amulet, a dark brown wool cloak, a ragged bearskin pack, some shimmering forest green robes, and some fringed deerskin boots.

He did announce himself on the thoughtnet/esp that he was in the center of town and collecting alms for the the new found shrine on a mountain peak outside Zul Logoth.
He only took silvers (no notes or other offerings) and when it was suggested that he may just be hoodwinking people he mentioned that the cleric's guild was behind his arrival and had sent out emissaries and heralds to notable ruling houses/families to collect and get further backing. About the shrine he said not too much more about it except that right now it's not considered safe for the masses and they symbols of the Arkati on the obelisks are separated by Liabo/Lornon/Lesser Spirits.

They've found a series of rooms that date back to the Ur-Daemon war that have younger artifacts inside them- obelisks, paintings, and murals. There seems to be a room for each of the Arkati. I talked to the guy with one of my Aelotoi characters while he was in the Landing. Like the others said, not much was added. He did say he'd gathered about 7 million silvers, but needed to gather more, and still didn't know when they were hoping to have the portals available to everyone. He also said that some parts of this shrine date back to (and perhaps beyond) the Ur-Daemon War, but some are newer. Nothing obviously significant.
Being a bit cynical for a moment, I'll add that I'm wondering whether I inadvertently stumped the GM on something he/she hadn't thought about. I asked him which Arkati were represented at the shrine, and he said "each Arkati and lesser spirit." But since the shrine dates back to the Ur-Daemon War and possibly before, I had my Aelotoi ask him if this included the Aelotoi Arkati, L'Naere. He then said that he actually doesn't know specifically who's represented there. Who knows. :)

At the current rate of donations, the Cleric Guild estimates they will have enough silver to secure portals in each town to aid in the travel to the recently unearthed shrine. The portals will be setup outside the Cleric Guilds in each town on Leyan, shortly before 9 PM (EST). Theologian Sureshie, cleric of Tilamaire, will lead the first tour up a massive staircase and into the shrine, explaining the many details and facts that have been uncovered so far. All clerics, paladins, and people of faith are strongly encouraged to attend.

From the officials:
Re: Archaeologists Unearth Shrine + Relieve Burden (314)
The recent campaign by the Cleric Guild to collect alms has been a success, but many Theologians and other clergy have reported the tremendous burden that is placed upon them for carrying such large amounts of silver. It hampers their daily tasks and makes travel more difficult. To remedy the situation, the Cleric Guild has researched a method to reduce the encumbrance of silver through the aid of magic. All clerics may now cast Relieve Burden (314). And while the overall goal for the necessary funds to pay for the Chronomage service tomorrow is near, clerics are still encouraged to continue collecting alms until then.
314 - Relieve Burden [RELIEVE]
Duration: 900 seconds + 30 seconds for every Cleric spell rank known; cumulative
Type: Utility
Clerics often collect offerings of alms for the poor. This spell will negate the encumbrance associated with loose silvers (not in boxes, just what the target carries in his or her pockets). The number of silvers that can be held without burden is 10,000 silvers + 2000 * Seed 5 ranks in Spiritual Lore - Blessings. Only silvers in excess of the spell's ability will apply to encumbrance. For example, if a cleric can negate 12000 silvers and is carrying 14000 silvers, only 2000 apply to encumbrance.
With the increased bonus, the mana cost increases. The base is 14 mana, + 1 for every 4000 silvers negated beyond the base amount.
When cast upon others, the duration is 2 minutes and the target is relieved of only the base 10,000 silvers burden.
Relieve Burden will replace Interdiction (314) in the Cleric base spell list. Interdiction has been moved to the creature-only spell list. Credit to former GameMaster Warden for the design and to GameMaster Oscuro for the coding.

Cripes, I used Interdiction ALL the time on Zenogais. Well, never against creatures, but versus people! That spell was absolutely crippling to a pure. One successful cast, and your mana goes from 300+ to 0, and REMAINED that way until the end of the duration! Talk about a pain in the ass.
I'm surprised they removed it, admittedly. I guess it was worthless versus a creature (what good would draining mana do when you're just going to kill it in 3 seconds anyway?) -- but for players it was incredible.

I really don't see any class in GS as "just a support class". There isn't a single profession that can not go from 0 to 100 without outside support. I've played healers in other games that absolutely couldn't do a damn frigging thing alone. I was the backbone of a group because they couldn't live long enough to kill something but I couldn't do any damage so it didn't matter how long I lived in front of a creature either.
Are non-clerics and paladins going to be able to use the portals?

Prolly not, they are the same ones you get from an intercession.
This is the log from when I did it last month:
You offer up your obsidian coffer to Fash'lo'nae as a pledge of your devotion.
A line of yellow light flows outward from your feet, tracing a pattern of growing intricacy on the air just above the ground. The light branches a multitude of times, each strand writhing in place as though barely held in check by some unseen power.
The threads of glowing amber loop back upon themselves, throwing silver sparks as their ends merge. The image of a stylized slit-pupiled eye completes itself and burns, sourceless, on the air about you for the space of a breath before vanishing into nothing.
Shadows enfold the coffer, swallowing it in a pulsating darkness. The blackness melts away, taking your offering with it, but you find a mottled citrine eye talisman has been left in its place.
K>look tali
You see nothing unusual.
K>gaze wonder talisman
You gaze in wonder at the citrine eye talisman in your hand.
Nice little trinket for clerics/paladins is all I think. =)

A few notes...
- The crack entrance/exit is nearby the eastern mine carts in Zul Logoth (Logoth side). It's literally a few rooms away (up towards the hunting area).
- The cleric guild in Illistim is on Gyldemar Road. NOT the one inside town (yes, lame).
- I suspect one of three things will happen with the obelisks...
1) Nothing (lol).
2) They have a threshold (ala the Miracle release) where something might happen with each one. However, I kept looking at Lorminstra and it stayed at the first level glow (if there's levels to them) the entire time I was there and this seems a bit TOO lengthy a task. My thought on raising the levels would be the spirit loss.
3) Once we get all the obelisks lit up, something further will happen. The NPC's put a lot of attention on this so I suspect there's more to come. This is the most logical action IMO.

Just the one they are converted to. If you try to bless another one you get shocked:

Roll up a paladin (purify is 1604 right?) and hunt them to 4, take the portal, figure out what's left, convert and do your thing.
Then go delete the character and start the process over.
I'll work on this a bit later.
However, if someone else is doing this and we get down to the last one.. it'd be really cool if they waited and posted here so people interested in seeing what might happen could meet up when they light the final one.
Also.. I think we should do the Luukos one first just to spite them ;)

Definitely not a SMC requirement- my paladin had no problem 1604'ing with 0 ranks. Probably a flat level requirement, possibly lores or spell ranks.

There's gotta be some Huntress and Arachne clerics/paladins around that haven't logged in yet. Laethe may be a good use for that alchemy cleric.
>convert set 35 confirm
You have selected Laethe for your deity alignment.
>prep 304
You raise your hand while murmuring a soft orison, focusing on the Bless Item spell...
Your spell is ready.
>cast laethe obe
You gesture at a dark purple Laethe obelisk.
A dull ache builds in your chest, filling you with formless sorrow and bringing tears to your eyes. The pain eases after a moment, borne away on a calming river of peace.
A delicate black onyx rose symbol suddenly materializes in your right hand.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.
(Forcing stance down to guarded)
>look laethe obe
Delicate and thin, the dark purple monolith has tiny inclusions of amethyst imbedded into its face. Standing alone at the center of the structure, a black rose sheds its petals. A faint aura of holy light radiates from the obelisk.
>
Done and done.
Two left, then.

ALL the deities listed on the CONVERT LIST are there in obelisk form. I'll search my logs and see if I can see people casting at the Kuon one. It'll be in a bit though.
IF low level characters are blocked from doing this.. Ari still isn't converted and so I can blow his if we need it (though I'd rather pursue the baby route first).

My level 10 cleric was able to bless the Koar obelisk, so the level requirement isn't very significant, if there is one.
Oh, just saw that B2's cleric was level 9, so we already knew this. I fail. :(

A faint haze of green and brown coils about Zable like a smoky vine, putting forth tiny glittering leaves and flowers before dissolving into the air.
A greenish gold zircon leaf symbol suddenly materializes in Zable's left hand.

I waited and just converted my cleric at level 25. I knew I was going to go bane later on but I had so many good smite scripts and the smite hunting was better at lower levels. I probably would have waited longer but I came back and moved my cleric to RR to be with some old friends and there was no undead for me to hunt so I swapped to bane.

No effect on 312/317.
I can't use 302/319 on the living (I don't rememnber if 319 is restricted on undead/living or works like 302 and lets you hit both, just at a reduced effectiveness).
302 is regular smite (no limitations to it).
The biggest penalty, IMO, is the inability to get involved in things (like this) that require an actual conversion setting. There's been a few merchants in the past that only did work for people converted to a specific deity alignment.
I have two reasons for this...
1) I don't like the concept of having to make such a permanent mechanical decision. Sooo, instead of dealing with it, I just ignore it ;)
2) I'm stubborn and seeing how long I can last without having to convert ;)
Honestly.. I think being in CoL and able to fuel 317 is what's let me go this long. I've not needed to rely on 302 to hunt.

I firmly believe there's something more. The way the NPC's talked about it was "oh hey, look at that.. it's glowing.. that's interesting.. we uh.. we need to get together and think about this some more."
..but yeah.. guess it needs to be GM driven :(
Oh well. At least things WE can control are done with.

Evarin, yes and no.
..because of all the history Ari has (through RP and events over the years), he's a very anti-arkati elf.
[EDIT: ..and yes, it's intentional that he still has such strong interest in arkati affairs.. very hypocritical (if that's the right word).]
Also..
He has allegiance to Lorminstra AND Luukos so it's hard to mechanically pick something. I was going to do it in this situation for the greater good of seeing if something cool was going to happen.
I don't get to RP the spiritual side much anymore so it's cool that you asked :)

>look at obelisk
Crimson flecks interrupt the smooth face of the golden obelisk, the dark inclusions glittering in the ambient light. Wreathed in alum, the image of a black jackal's head stands out from the gold at the heart of the structure and is inset with glittering yellow topaz eyes. A faint aura of holy light radiates from the obelisk.
>cast sheru ob
You gesture at a golden Sheru obelisk.
Darkness envelops you, an unrelieved blackness that is far from empty. Small, unsettling sounds tease at the edge of your hearing, unidentifiable but building in you an unnatural panic that rises with every breath. Nightmare images flicker at the corners of your eyes, though whether fabrications of your mind or true visions you cannot be sure.
Wild, barking laughter breaks the spell and the blackness streams away in near-solid tendrils. You can sense it, though, the darkness, the madness, hovering at the edge of your mind... waiting.
An iron-rimmed amber jackal talisman suddenly materializes in your right hand.

Many folks now consider the new shrine found near Zul Logoth as a beacon of their faith. Wrapped in mystery and lost throughout the ages, the location now serves as a focus for spiritual enlightenment. The pilgrimage proved to be long, but worth it; clerics and paladins are rewarded for making the jounrney with a token of their deity's appreciation and an experience to shape their future.
However, much is still unknown about the site. The Cleric Guild has been locked in a heated debate over the last few weeks trying to decide how best to proceed. They were most perplexed when the obelisks began to glow after a cleric or paladin showed reverence to it. It was finally agreed upon that the Cleric Guild would organize a Prayer of Communion at the site. The service is to start tomorrow at 7 (Plat)/8 (Prime) PM EST at the Altar Chamber in the shrine.
Lastly, the Chronomages will be removing the portals from outside the Cleric Guild in each town in one week's time. Those who have not visited the shrine, but wish to make the pilgrimage are encouraged to do so now or they will be forced to walk to Zul Logoth, adding significant time to their trip!

someone please post a log of the room-nuke that went off about ten minutes ago
Vender weaves his hands in a fluid pattern before him, matching the tempo of his soft incantation. The subtle scent of the ocean tickles your nose as Vender tenses momentarily. With a wide smile, Vender caresses Ichiko's cheek before placing his hand above Ichiko's heart. Wisps of rainbowed energy flow from Vender's fingertips and into the body of Ichiko, washing over her and rescuing her from the clutches of the abyss.
Guttural and primal, the words of Uraag's chant are torn from Uraag throat with enough force to slice the very air. he clenches his hands into tight fists and within moments blood begins to seep from between his fingers. Bending at the waist, Uraag opens his hands and presses his right hand to Strydyr's forehead, and the other to his lips. Power surges through the connected bodies and within moments Strydyr draws his first breath of life.
Lifting her finger, Zenaxa begins to chant and draws a series of conjoined circles in the air. Each circle turns to mist and takes on a different hue - white, blue, black, red, and green. As the last ring is completed, she spreads her fingers and gently allows the tips to touch each color and pushes the misty creation towards Inoak. A shock of energy courses through Zenaxa's body as the mist seeps into Inoak's chest and life is slowly returned to his body.
As Maleisse begins to chant the scent of dry, dusty parchment fills the air and a topaz mist wreathes her body. The coiling, ethereal tendrils circle about she and slowly rise from her feet to her head where they form a slit-eye. The eye opens, its focus upon Annelie and a surge of energy passes between the two.
Rolling green mist seeps from Bellaja's skin and glides across her fingertips only to swirl through the air towards Dhuul. As the mist connects with the prone form, a surge of power can be seen dancing across Dhuul skin and his writhes beneath its erratic gyrations.
Thin at first, a fine layer of rime coats Galadhriel's hands and fingertips. The hoarfrost smoothly glides across the space between Galadhriel and Fleurs, turning to a light powder in the open air between. The white substance clings to Fleurs's eyelashes and cheeks for a moment before it becomes charged with spiritual power, then it slowly melts away.

(I was most assuredly embarassed by my failed cast of commune, hahahah)
.
You raise your hand while murmuring a soft orison, focusing on the Prayer of Communion spell...
You gesture.
Utter blasphemy! You are attempting to call upon the divine without declaring your allegiance to a deity?! You feel that if you survive this affront against the gods, that you should CONVERT to one soon!
You get the feeling that something went wrong with your attempt to establish a link with your deity.

Basically the summary is...
Sureshie and Inoak showed up. Sureshie picked 3 clerics (Kaedra, Aubriella, and Arianiss). Kaedra communed for the Liabo arkati, Aubriella communed for the Lornon arkati, and Arianiss communed for everyone else.
.
As the last syllable of the third Prayer of Commune is uttered, a high pitched sound resonates through the chamber.
Rising in volume to an earsplitting noise, the hum shifts through various pitches before suddenly and abruptly falling silent.
On the heels of the sudden silence, the triangular altar at the center of the room begins to glow with a blinding light.
Rippling outward from the triangular altar, a wave of pure plasma strikes out at those nearby.
Flowing out of the chamber, the light course through the arch and disappear from sight with seconds of its departure.

And if you point it out? She will just post about how she is SO BUSY and hopefully will get to it by 2012. There are still numerous typos and misspellings in the changes she made to Mist Harbor last year. Instead of fix them, she does stuff like this which just makes MORE typos to fix.

Apparently, people are pissed this wasn't monks. The GM's then stated that you will see monks in beta before they go live, so don't get your hopes up.

Is this like last year's sneak peek? I think it was the partial spell list last year. Maybe they'll have the other 5-10 spells done now. Monks 2014!

Last year practically nothing was revealed. 2008 the full Minor Mental List plans were revealed. Oscuro hinted that this year at the least, some of the Monk CMans would be revealed.
