Slow startup

Since I installed Lich, whenever I log into the game it takes a while to respond.. Like all of the initial greetings and the room description pop up, but after that it doesn't do much. Sometimes it can take upwards of two minutes to respond.
Does this happen to anyone else? Is there a way to remedy the situation?
