Doesn't really matter, as long as it's apples to apples, both years.

Those results are kind of surprising since they've had all these promotions.

It would be interesting to see the past 15 years of data.

That is how a server side hosting traffic solution would calculate a unique.
Compete.com has relationships with large ISPs and backbone providers and they analyze raw traffic logs provided by such, so I'm unsure what their methodology is, they might be able to use further data such as MAC address and or ISP account name, geographic locations, and IPs, or an aggregate value of the above.
But in anycase Hobbit is right, it doesn't matter, so long as the methodology didn't change over the course of the sample size. It is still a big YOY drop percentage wise.

I agree it doesn't matter I was just thinking no way in hell 9,000 different people visited that site in one month.

Could be that the officials are just a horrible place for information now days. People use these forums more and krakii for info. Then you have SGE or Lich for logins.

I know I just see more people making the switch all the time is all IMO.
They're monthly uniques, so for an active player not to count they would not have to visit at all for an entire month.

When I was playing I would never go to play.net, what was the point?
If this is a DNS log it would be counting all the lookups of subdomains, like eaccess.play.net, and then that's a very telling statistic on the number of active subscribers.

Remember DR players go to play.net as well. A few years ago Simu had over 10k active accounts, this seems to jive with that.

and MO players!
I think we can safely subtract 4 from that number...
and MO players!
I know a Gem player who came over from MO, she was even a GameHost over there. I was pretty shocked they even had those. She said the weird thing at first about Gem was in MO you could do ACT but they didn't have the parentheses. If you screwed around and did stupid stuff then you were punished by having the parentheses added to your ACTs, so she thought a lot of the Gemstone players were in trouble at first.
