Cunning Offense

Mnemonic:Coffense
Hostile:no
Stamina Cost:Passive N/A
Other Requirements:none
Available to:Warriors, Rogues, Rangers, Bards, Monks, Paladins
Prerequisites:none

CMP cost:
Rogues, Warriors - 2, 4, 6, 8, 10

Bards, Monks, Paladins, Rangers - 3, 6, 9, 12, 15

Description:Each rank of the skill would negate 1 level of a target's level should the target's level be greater than the user.

So basically, every rank you had would negate 1 level of a target's level-based defensive bonus (or negate 1 level of the penalty to attacking a higher level foe, if you like), up to 5 levels. Only comes into effect if the creature is above you in levels.

Thoughts?

I already posted my idea for Cunning Offense on the officials, which my idea is basically the exact same as Cunning Defense, but apply the +3 bonus per rank to offensive CMANs.

Yours is certainly more original!

Seems like it might negate the creation of Cunning Defense in the first place...

I'm almost never concerned about their level based defense. It's the level based offense that kills me. If they changed "cunning defense" to equalize level differential as described but for defense, I'd be all over it.

Rofl, cunning offense. If they named the new Combat Maneuver; something like, "BLUE BANANA," some of you guys would still cry like little bitches about the most infinitesimal-ever bullshit and demand it be the new-and-exclusive "GIVE US CMAN RED GRAPEFRUIT OR I WILL PISS AND MOAN TO NO END."

Jesus-fucking-Christ-nailed-on-a-giant-letter-"T"-stick, man.

I don't think "sharing an idea" is really pissing and moaning good sir Stanley.

Well, don't squares and especially semi's have massive problems using CMANs on creatures that are just a bit over their heads? This would address the problem without just blanket offense. I honestly don't think you could push Coffense through if all it did was give you another psuedo rank of offense in EVERY SINGLE offensive maneuver.

First, it would bump all of your Guild learned maneuvers to 7 full ranks, which seems a bit high to me. Second, it would be much harder to balance, as there are far more variables at play when you do an across the board increase. I mean hell, if they'll put it out, that's fine. I just think this will be more balanced, and address a specific concern effectively.

I actually agree with rhett, it'd be a fake bonus, a wash.

If they need offensive CMs to be better, they can just boost offensive CMs

I still think they should let warriors 3x cmans

This would be much better.

Sure it would negate CDefense...in CvC, but who cares? Monsters aren't having their stats tweaked in relation to these CMANs, at least I don't think so. As for warriors getting 3x CM, I think that's fair, but they already can 3x a lot of important skills, PF, Shield, Dodge, etc.

With all this focus on combat aspects in GS I think they need to add something that's more for the role players, maybe they could add a skill to the tree that has to do with your ability to persuade an individual by words, a skill that defines just how good you are with your tongue... whatever could they call it...

Here's how CM should work: Warriors 3x; Paladins, Rangers, Bards, Clerics 2x; Sorcs, Wizards, Empaths 1x; Rogues -1x. Done and done.
