Few questions about armor for sorcerer's, just curious. I left about 8 years ago and have been playing for a year and so I'm just now really getting around to getting some decent equipment.

Currently I'm wearing a 4-5x Tunic I forget which enchant it is off hand; green aura I believe. Anyway it's terrible. I only have about 2200 PP so upgrading any existing armor really isn't going to happen for awhile. I'm also not rich so buying a really great set is also out of the question.

Currently I'm 53 trains with 8 armor ranks. This should let me wear double without an issue and so I'm looking to upgrade.

Now I have a set of some nice Laje Tooled Leathers from back before I left, currently 0x but only reinforced leathers. I was going to enchant these up to 4x myself (of course at the time I thought I remembered them being double). I love the look of the armor though so am still considering that.

On the other hand I have some burnished vermilion armor which is currently 2x brig that I could enchant up to 4x.

Do any sorcerer's wear brig? Would it be worth training up my armor ranks to get the hinderance down to 11%? Or is 11% still really going to be a pain while hunting? Currently I have no issue frying without using wracking. Mostly hunting Bonespear because whenever I do Stone Valley or Dark Stone I end up getting my neck broken (litterally).

Just curious what some other sorcerer's do, what experiences they've had so I can get an idea for my training path now. Essentially I guess I'm curious if it's worth training down the hinderance and using brig, or if the 11% is still very problematic for hunting and we should just stick with double leathers.

Thanks,
Q

I use 7x dcp doubles that I've never actually hunted in

Hinderence is a personal choice. Zhelas wears plain 5x doubles and sometimes that 2% hinderence plus the spell fumbling can really be a pain in the arse... but it is what it is... Some folks like Desorceri wear robes.

Supposedly you don't REALLY need more than 4x according to Simu. This may be true but it will mean you just need to tank more spells.

I went from the lowbie levels to around 80 wearing 2x dcp doubles, ink-black elven fighting leathers. Then I upgraded to 4x hcp doubles, and now I wear 8x hcp doubles.

I wear 6x CP fulls. Pedobear approved.

But really, I don't remember what crit padding they are. They had temp heavy cp and some solid resist put on them. 2% means that every 2 spells out of 100 will fail. It's really obnoxious, to me. Which is why I wear fulls. 11% would give me an aneurysm.

Just whatever you get, get them with crit padding.

I wear brig, but it is only possible to get into it at/near cap with full 1x, and with a good amount of enhancives. You need 110-111 ranks to get to 11% hindrance, which most pures cannot stomach. For the more casual sorcerer who can tolerate hindrance, I would recommend leather breast plate.

Ok, again I'm new so forgive me if this is stupid. But why does it take 110-111 ranks of armor to get brig down to 11%? Does it vary by profession? I ask because I have an Empath with 35 ranks in armor and my hinderance with brig on for the Empath circle is down to the 7% minimum for wearing brig. I just thought 35 trainings regardless of profession brought the hinderance to the minimum level, is this assumption than incorrect?

If if truly takes 110-111 ranks, what would the proportional ranks be for leather breastplate? That would at least give you the same rigid armor CvA for the entire body correct, but wouldn't cover the arms, legs, neck, or head correct?

Again I apologize if these answers should be obvious.

Sure does vary by profession. Sorcerers need 11 ranks to wear brig with minimal hindrance, 50 ranks for Studded leather, 27 for cuirboulli, and 20 for LBP.

Check here for more excruciating detail:

On a side note, before you ask a question on the boards, it pays to check krakiipedia for the answer. More often than not, it will be there, plain as day.

Empaths and Clerics are in another dimension when it comes to hindrance. They can pull off aug chain for Christ sake. As was mentioned, the highest you should shoot for as a wizard or sorcerer is lbp, or cuirb if you get a great set.

Appreciated; I do try to check Krakiipedia, but I was looking under 'Armor Hinderance' as opposed to 'Armor Use'. When I put in my search it automatically brought up the hinderance page so I didn't see any other articles suggested that offered more insight.

Thanks for the responses it was very helpful.

Do you have access a Paladin to help reduce the hindrance?

I wore cuiriboulli for years and years, but eventually got to the point where I stopped getting hit so thicker armor was no benefit, so now I wear doubles for the lower hinderance.

I do still have a backup set of golvern cuiriboulli should I ever want to switch back.

D is a Paladin, but she isn't around at all times, so sometimes I just suck it up, and hunt with Semi-level hindrance. Unlike V, Evarin gets banged on constantly. I tend to fight in swarms, hunt constructs, and hunt encumbered. Heavy armor is def. Worth it to me.
