I think the title says most of it. I wonder if he still performs.
You may sing your adulation here. Or, if you suck so much you don't like Tom Petty, you may cover yourself in lead-based paint and prance around in here doing the chicken dance.
The Last DJ, which I believe was the most recent single he released, was fucking amazing. If I remember correctly, a lot of radio stations, Clear Channel owned one specifically, refused to give the song major air play. The guy's definately a legend, and it's amazing he can keep producing such quality music, while so many others just burn out or fade away.
Lyrics to The Last DJ:
Well, you can't turn him into a company man
You can't turn him into a whore
And the boys upstairs
Just don't understand anymore
The top brass don't like him
Talking so much
And he won't play
What they say to play
And he don't want to change
What don't need to change
There goes the last DJ
Who plays what he wants to play
Who says what he wants to say
Hey, hey, hey
There goes your freedom of choice
There goes the last human voice
There goes the last DJ
Some folks say they're gonna
hang him so high
'Cause you just can't do what he did
There's some things you just can't
Put into the mind of those kids
As we celebrate mediocrity
All the boys upstairs want to see
How much you'll pay for
What you used to get for free
There goes the last DJ
Who plays what he wants to play
Who says what he wants to say
Hey, hey, hey
There goes your freedom of choice
There goes the last human voice
There goes the last DJ
Well, he got him a station
Down in Mexico
Sometimes it'll kinda come in
And I'll bust a move and
Remember how it was back then
There goes the last DJ
Who plays what he wants to play
Who says what he wants to say
Hey, hey, hey
There goes your freedom of choice
There goes the last human voice
There goes the last DJ

Clear Channel owns every radio station, for the most part, don't they? No wonder I haven't heard that song. It's a shame.
My dad saw a Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers show when I was very young, and he said it was hands-down the best concert he had ever been to, second only to a Grateful Dead show (where he got free weed.).
Clear Channel operates roughly 10% of all radio stations in the nation, including most major ones.

I saw him perform last summer (2003) at the PNC Bank Art Center here in jersey. Was a great show.

Clear Channel is a puppet for President Bush, as well as a campaign contributer. That's why they pulled Stern when he stopped supporting Bush. Fuck them up the ass hard.
P.S. Tom Petty rules.

I  Tom Petty. I've been to two of his shows, both of which were great. Last one I saw was two years ago, I think.
I LOVE Tom Petty. Yes, I am a country western fan but I can appreciate good music regardless of the genre.
