Okay, so I am having trouble with the install up to THIS point. I have successfully downloaded and installed Ruby, and successfully downloaded and extracted the .zip file. However, THIS is where my trouble begins.
According to the directions, after the files are extracted, I should be able to double-click on lich.rbw...and I am assuming that the game entry window should pop up. However, no matter what I do, double-clicking or right-click;open, NOTHING is happening.
I am going to assume that I am missing something fairly important...but I cannot for the life of me figure out what it is. Any help, thoughts, or ideas would be most appreciated!

Heh TIllmen she tried that it still isnt running. She got it to install using the dos command and got it installed there and the missing dir's were installed BUT shes missing the windows batch file in the main Lich directory. Does the sge call out to or use that to run? If so any way to get that file?
Shes hangin on the play button on the SGE, she can and did log in with no lich from the web site. From the sge nothing happens.

ok update.
Got the lich program to run under dos as before and she was able to log in through it and have lich active in gemstone.
However, sge still stalls at the play button and double clicking the lich file in windows does nothing, wont pull up the lich program.
Think it may be permissions related to vista?

I assume if you think it's a permissions issue you already right-clicked and "run as administrator"

For anyone searching the forums with a similar problem, the rename failed because Windows Explorer was set to hide file extensions.
I suppose I might as well give an explanation for why lich.rbw might need to be renamed to lich.rb. The rbw file extension is associated with rubyw.exe, which does not create a dos window. The rb file extension is associated with ruby.exe which does. The problem is rubyw.exe will crash if it tries to write to stdout or stderr, because without a dos window, those things don't exist. This would generally be no problem, because Lich redirects those to something that does exist. It becomes a problem again when Ruby attempts to write warnings to stderr before it is possible for Lich to redirect stderr.... and this appears to happen on random setups. The specific warning is about "Float out of rage", and is simply a bug in the version of Ruby we're using when combined with certain versions of Windows. I believe the bug is fixed in Ruby 1.8.7, but getting GTK and everything compiled and working with that version has been a challenge.

Hi TIllmen.
Double clicking the lich files now works with that, however still having problems with the sge not finding the launcher ok.
Had her uninstall and reinstall under the install tab to have the lich pick up the extension is now .rb and also had her change the batch file to reflect that too.
Had her check launcher and sge both so theyd run as admin.
Still does nothing on the play button.
Next point I guess wil be to reinstall sge and launcher, though sge does work just isnt finding the launcher I think when it goes to play.
I dont know.

This happened to me--had to uninstall and reinstall Simu Game Entry and maybe SF too... I think I had actually never used SGE before--just went in through the website for years.
