OK ... I'm fairly new to the forum. Been reading a bunch of the posts, but have a couple of questions ...

wtf are 'pwded' and <3...

:duh:

Sean

<3 would be a heart So you could say I <3 pizza, I heart pizza, or I love pizza.

I'll let someone else explain pwned.

PS. Welcome to the forums.

<3 = Love
Pwned = the pawning of someone which basically means you got one over on them etc.

I'm sure Bob will explain further should you require it. Also, welcome to PC. Yay for new members! :)

Pwn, or PAWNING.

Dispose off.

Celexei

PWND= someones mispelled OWNED, to own or dominate over someone

Miss X

<<Pwned = the pawning>>

WRONG YOU SUCK.

Pwn = Own. It derives from Counter-Strike where it was a common typo, and turned into an actual term.

Sean

Eh, Nakiro agreed with you I think?, I just never heard someone refer to it as pawning. I always understood it as Celexei explained it.

Miss X

Thanks Bob, now I feel even dumber. :( :(

It does, but it's something 10-year-old girls use.

ie. It's fucking dumb.

Celexei

there are many created words that come from different games and such that are used in game, just takes asking and experience to figure out what the meanings of each are

Off Topic: Miss X... just noticed your mood. What exactly are you craving?

Nakiro

I always thought of it the way I explained. I guess mispelling owned makes a bit more sense.

Anyway, it just means to get your ass kicked, etc.

Caipre
03-26-2004, 11:14 AM
Wow, that was quick. Thanks all.

I had a feeling pwned was owned, but wanted to make sure. The <3 = love one was just too easy

act slaps himself upside the head.

You suck, it started in WarCraft 2. A programmer mispelled something, it was supposed to say 'Player 1 has been owned.' He mispelled it and put 'Player 1 has been pwned.' That and since it was a somewhat typical typo, it got popular. But it didn't start in CS.

If it was a typical typo, then you can't say it started in WarCraft, either.

You were wrong, it was originated and gained popularity in War2, which carried over to CS.

Again, if it was a COMMON TYPO it didn't originate anywhere.

Bob, your original statement - "Pwn = Own. It derives from Counter-Strike where it was a common typo, and turned into an actual term."

Your original statement is wrong, it wasn't derived from Counter-Strike, it was derived from War2. I'm done arguing this stupid point.

Your entire argument is wrong, it was not derived from WarCraft.

It was originated there, Bob just can never admit he's wrong.

Quick, SAT analogy style!

"own" is to "pwn", as "the" is to:

WRUNG U SUK! I was pwning people in quake 1 before U were b0rn!

The history is that owned obviously was what was intended but the P being near was a common typo as has been mentioned.
This being typically stated by your average pre-pubecent Bob type of character, lots of hormones, very little actual sex and easily wound up because of it so when making a joke you used pwned to let people know that you are in fact retarded but not nearly as retarded as the fool who really do say things like that and mean it in quake/CS/etc.

Thats how pwned got into regular use.

You also gotta understand the above or average intelligent people would just set up a bind to spam their trash talking so the person that types and mispelled OWNED is the dumbest of the dumb.

I don't run on my sentences and how can you say that cause I thought we were friends and now I am sad, so very sad, sad to the point I might never ever post here cause you say I run on my sentences and that is just mean you big meanie head and here I thought you liked me, not in the 'oh I want to have her babies' way but more in the 'she is so smart that I totally look up to her' way but now the truth comes out and to be accused of run on sentences as well is like...like...well I cant think of anything to compare it to because I am too much in shock so hope youre happy now Latrin  .

PS Am I back on top now for the longest run on sentence? If so imagine me punching the air while in the background The Eye of the Tiger plays. Ala Rocky.
