Anyone using this? I'm at the point where standing still for more than a few seconds gets me garrotted or ewaved or something.
Haven't used it in a while.

You named the reason why I don't bother to use the spell. It is pointless to me to have to disable something so that the spell can take the time to kill its target. I would rather expend a bit more mana and kill it quickly. The only use I have for the spell is the unfocused version in warcamps, and that is frequently dispelled by Grimswarm.

It's not a bad spell for 20s and 30s to save mana. I used it in the monastery quite a bit. Still use it, on occasion, as 702/705 can take nearly as much time to plink, use as much (usually more) mana, and disallow you from actively disabling a critter due to RT (keeping 703 running, for example).
I was hunting in the Stronghold a while back and I saw this sorceress using it on a shaman. I couldn't believe it, she was just standing there powering it up. I finished my hunt and sure enough saw her death notice a minute later.

Yea good spell 20-40 trains. After that its death or ineffective. Also with the newer BCS critters they run more making it harder to use.

Back in the day where critters tended to swarm (I don't know what's changed, but 10-20 pooka's in a room never happens anymore), UM and FM were pretty useful, to a point. If you're facing a BCS critter, dont waste your time.
pookas, eidolons, lost souls, various things up in pinefar (corpses), I imagine zombies too.
Generally undead that do not have manuevers, can be mana intensive to kill (or, in the rift, you just want to keep hunting forever Tarakan style because leaving and entering is a pita), and will not run because they do not value their own life.
It has it's place. It could be made much better if we could SHIFT it, if perhaps, being demon spawned (lets assume), it might automatically shift, as being intelligent. And if it had some disabling powers (like a vortex after a call wind) that worked concurrent with it's damage abilities.
But I think it is still a solid spell, just very specialized, like evil eye or torment. We don't need all our spells to be useful everywhere on everything. It is okay to have a few specialized ones.

Agreed.
