View Full Version : So... My Sister Has Cancer.

She has absolutely nothing for information (aside from the online crap she's scaring herself with), and has an appointment Monday to get the in-depth analysis, more or less.
Not really sure what to do about it, myself, but I'm feeling a bit confused (enough so to post about it, and see what comes from the replies). For the sake of getting it out there, she's twenty six, in relatively good health aside from today's diagnosis, but she had been a smoker for a decent period of time ranging back to high school, then on and off to this day.
I guess bad things DO come in threes...

Sucks to hear that. Best of luck to her. No idea what kind of cancer or even where it's located?

My dad was just informed a month ago that he has cancer once again. This is the third time it has come about. It's been life-threatening each time and my family's whole world has been turned upside-down by it. Making yourselves informed is the most empowering, comforting, and mind-settling thing you can do. Go to the doctor, ask as many questions as you can, and research as much as you can (but only go to credible sources or you'll freak out with the crazy things some resources will tell you). Your sister can speculate and worry to no end but she will find real power in real information. If you happen to live in Washington, go to the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. It's the best place to get treatment (and information). PM me if you want to - cancer feels like a normal part of life for me.

It's in the back of her mouth, on her tongue. She had a pea-sized lump removed from a few weeks ago, and the results came from the biopsy, from what I can tell.

Her youth will make the fight easier.. depending on what/where/how aggressive it may not be a huge deal. My boyfriend had thyroid cancer like four years ago-- while it was scary, because it wasn't an aggressive type and they caught it early enough they basically just removed a chunk of the thyroid and gave him one round of chemo. Hasn't been a problem since.
Anyway, best of luck to your sister. Hopefully it'll be similarly easily (well, as easily as can be) treatable!

Best of luck to your sister. Cancer sucks but it can be beaten.

Seriously though, hope all goes well.

And I always thought AestheticLife was the one with mouth-cancer. Seriously though, my uncle has had terminal, incurable cancer for over a year now. Many cancers, even inoperable or incurable cancers are pretty treatable and the younger you are the better your options for more treatments and new therapies (which are being developed constantly).

Best wishes for a good outcome. While cancer is horrible, advances in medicine and her being young should make this something she can beat.

My dad past passed from cancer almost a year ago, so I know what it's like to be in this situation. Do all the research you can, that's the best advice I can give. Make sure the doctors double and triple-check everything. They are doctors, but they aren't perfect.
Good luck, stay strong.
