I'm trying to help a friend of mine install Lich on her computer.

Neither of us being very computer savvy, we're running into some problems.

What we've done is download ruby, and Lich from the wiki/download page.

She extracted Lich to her "My Documents" folder.

Opened Lich, and when she clicked the install tab, the actual "Install" button is grayed out and won't let her use it.

Anyone know why that would be?

That's usually because PsiNet is installed. If it let you install Lich while PsiNet was installed, you would be able to log into the game for roughly two seconds, and then PsiNet would disconnect you.. on purpose.

Thanks we'll try scrubbing any trace of Psinet off of there and see what happens.

I wish this were the case, but I can't even get PsiNet installed.

I installed Ruby, then installed Lich. When I open Lich (the game entry), and click on the Install tab, I see Reopen as Admin (or something like that, it's late here). I click that, Lich disappears, then reopens. When I click the Install tab again, I see the Web and SGE launcher order paths. Under that is a box to check for installing with Psinet that greyed out and uncheckable (not that I'd want to check it). Under that I see Unstall and Uninstall buttonx with the install button being greyed out. The Uninstall button is clickable, but nothing happens.

I can still log into the game through the SGE and play with no problems, but I also play with no Lich.

If the install button is grayed out and the uninstall button is clickable, then Lich should be installed. If logging in with SGE still doesn't bring up Lich, you may have an old version of SGE that doesn't use the registry. Downloading and installing a current version of SGE from the Simu website should probably fix that.

If you don't plan on using PsiNet, then you don't even have to worry about installing Lich to the registry. You can just use the Lich game entry instead of SGE.

I uninstalled the SGE, Stormfront, and the Launcher, then reinstalled them all, and I was able to install Lich from the game entry box.

And it works!

Thank you Savrin! Tillmen!

I am trying to add my husband's casters to befriend list so they have access to my character's current spells. When I type ;befriend <char name> I get:
--- Lich: could not find script `befriend' in directory C:/~/~/Documents/Gaming/Gemstone/lich-4.1.13/lich/scripts/!
