View Full Version : Is the Sabreon MA crew a nuisance

I don't hunt OTF yet.

I have heard several people complain about him hunting 40 jillion characters at once in there.

Is this a nuisance?
Does this help you?
Does it not matter?

Just trying to get a picture of what the future holds for me.

Leader of some faction. I don't even remember the name. I haven't seen him interact with people often and he MA's. I don't think it's a big deal.. I don't see him bullying anyone.

Sabreon is leader of the Dreadnaughts. He's also one of the highest, if not the highest experienced character in game. He hunts with very large groups or 5 or more in OTF, which can cause some big swarms.

At first, it was pretty annoying, but I learned to like. When I have a task because I can just search for the creature I need and beat it down.

Some of the Dreadnought crew take stuff FAR too seriously and then the rest get involved. Unless that's changed with the depopulation.

This pretty much echos my own feelings.

I've gone from CvC, to PvP (and warn interact, my only one) with Sabreon and crew, until finally a civil relationship with these guys. Before quitting, I actually RP'd with their group during a few storylines. They have a bad reputation, some of it earned, but they do try to keep things from getting out of hand these days. That being said, expect CvC/PvP if you push them in any way. I can't comment on the other Dreadnaughts outside of his own bunch.

In terms of hunting, at first they probably will get you killed. The areas they hunt swarm like mad. Find out what route they take and avoid it. Most people stick to a pretty set circuit when hunting, and these guys are no exception. Kitsun and his bunch can also generate a fairly sizable swarm, so this is nothing new. Once you're closer to cap, you will actually be thankful they are there, as they make bounty tasks infinitely easier.

As far as I know, they do regularly perform rescues and gear retrieval, so they will more likely than not be the ones pulling you out of OTF should you die. Just some food for thought.

Never heard of the dreadnaughts, so I guess there's your reputation as far as I'm concerned. I'm glad most of the MA-ing large groups seem to like it in OTF. I don't mind the swarms so much, but a big group can suck the loot out of a hunting area pretty fast, and that sucks. There's some MAing in the rift, but I haven't had any problems with any of them since Tsin left the rift years ago, and he was just a whinny bitch.

Sabreon et. al. is allright. I've had good encounters with him and bad. My only fault would be that he's uber-serious about gameplay and that sometimes bleeds over into the personal side.

As far as his hunting in OTF. I've found his crew to be ultimately more helpful than harmful - especially when a weapon is lost, an untimely death occurrs and of course the added treasure amounts that come with greater critter genning. The only downside is that if you're on the low 90 side and hunting there - the swarms/numbers that his presence creates can make hunting pretty tricky if not nigh impossible in some areas if he does not clear or at least disburse those swarms.

I didn't always like their actions... but they were always consistently awake and responsive whenever I encountered them. You can't say that for many players of Simu games. It's a quality I appreciate.

Used to run around with them for the brief moment I was the same level. No problems at all.

Yeah I used to run into them all the time in OTF and he/they were nice. Like Gan said, they made it tough at times for my empath and cleric, who were in the high 80s/low 90s at first but my ranger was fine with swarms. I just had a script that would race my cleric and empath to the West Woods or whatever it's called and only occasionally would one get snagged on the way to/from. He'd help out if he noticed them stunned/etc. Like Fallen said, he made doing bounties much easier and made it possible for my capped ranger to fry in a reasonable amount of time.

I love it when they hunt OTF, makes tasks so so so much easier.

They are a wee bit sloppy though, with ewaves and the like.

The most important thing is to know in advance when they're hunting, giving you the option of preparing. You don't want your realization to be 5 griffins suddenly flying into the room (though, I can typically quell 5 griffins in under 10 seconds).

not without potentially sucking up his crew by accident and starting WWIII.

Hunting OTF without his crew in there is Le boring. Hunting with the gen rates as if he's in there is the only way to hunt OTF and have fun, for me anyhow.

Let me add my I like it when Sabreon is in the OTF two cents.

Everything the other people said about it making it easier and when it becomes more beneficial, but I want to add something else.

When you are 85-90 and you see he is in there and its swarming like mad hunt the other areas. Market Road probably isnt the best place for ya anyway.

He has never gotten me with an ewave that he did not pick me up right away...and whoever he has ewaving doesnt knock me down for all that much time anyway. Infact I have killed him more than he has killed me with errant casts and even that is I distracted his youngest character as he ran through and that got em killed, but he was not mad at all and everything was fine.

All around good guy that will help when he sees your body on the floor, though he might miss it lying there, he will not do it on purpose in my opinion.

Nothing but positive interactions, particularly with rescues and gear retrieval.

Speaking of which... when/where is it considered OK to use focussed implosion in OTF?

I assume that birds don't pick up equipment, so they should be fair game. But for the others... is it enough to simply add a LOOK-check to my script before casting, or should I assume that any Ithzir could be "body packing" someone's favorite jewelry?

Everytime I've hunted in OTF, I major e-wave whatever room he is in and run.

When I used to hunt with my capped cleric in OTF, Sabreon et al were very helpful with disarmed weapons and my very few rare deaths. Plus, I loved the swarms. It was a bit painful for some of my other characters, but I always thought OTF was kind of like a "trial by fire" type place.

Griffins are immune to open implosion.

I was speaking of web bolt. Web bolt = neutered griffin to kill at your leisure.

All ithzir that have looted a corpse will be wearing a "large sack" or have something fancy in their hands.

Implode away.
If someone's stupid enough to take something into the area they could not handle losing it's not your fault and wtf shouldn't you be able to use your most powerful spell?

Fuck them.

.. Man, I miss Nodyre.

Doesn't matter to me one way or another if he or any of the Multi Account crews hunt. I prefer the swarms. It does make hunting more exciting.

He has rescued me, recovered gear, and he's fun to follow around. It's the packrat in me to pick up the loot he disdains, and he leaves a lot.

As others have said... If you're on the low end of levels for OTF, it can make things a little more tricky. With the swarming and area webs and shit. But he'll always help you if he can.

He'll also gladly let you join his group if you ask. Just let him know what your task is and he'll say join up, then you'll be rolling with tonis, bravery, and... other helpful shit.

If you don't like hunting OTF when it swarms... It's not hard to tell when his group is in there, and they make a point of getting in and out as quickly as they can specifically for this reason. Just wait 10 minutes at the barrier, and they'll be out.

Okay, I'm pretty much looking forward to hunting with his crew when I'm on the low end spectrum for OTF.

Gold rings work in OTF in case you want to avoid swarms or get to the smaller stuff in the Aquaducts.

For the people who have never been there, you have to actually be in OTF to use rings. Or you used to anyway. So you set your ring to just past the second barrier, IIRC. For me, I just used my turbo scripts to run in and out.

Also, be careful using 130 in OTF. It has like 6 spots it can drop you, some are safer than others. Voln fog is (or was when I played) safe but took you to a safe spot in the ass end of the West Woods behind a cottage.

Edit: all this talk is making me want to reactivate.....

Over the years, I've had multiple people walk by and tell me they loved my group there or that they've missed me when I wasn't hunting in OTF. I've had just a couple people bitch at me. For a few days, I thought maybe I should leave Northern OTF to solo hunters and tried to hunt the main entryway, except Sabreon's group was there too and made it a huge deathtrap.

For you or other people? I tell ya when I go solo in there and there is a huge group like sabreon in I kill when I can and I move when I cant but its hardly ever a death trap. For me the only thing that kills me is a herald disc on the second fly through.

Now when I am hunting in another large group thats when it gets fun and you basically kill as fast as you can every two to three seconds in 20-30 second bursts. Trying to judiciously use a disruption or ewave after that first constructs aura is down plus sleeping griffins and seers as they come in is alot of fun and sort of reminds me when I used to hunt wearns hasted.

The more the merrier.

It didn't bother me. I just noticed a lot more OTF hunters drop in that time period. And the thoughts for gear recovery.
