It's amazing how uninformed some of the people who make it into state and national government are sometimes. I honestly doubt the bill will make it to the table as it is, but rather, it should be amended to ban only female genital mutilation, as it applies to children and their parents who are religious nuts or come from a whacked-out culture.

Well, my understanding of the story is that a legislator slipped the amendment in at the last moment before the vote. I don't believe legislators can vote to pass only part of a bill and the part of the bill that has to do with genital mutilation of children is I believe the part that was deserving of passage. It still has to go back to the chamber for debate because of the amendment. So hopefully common sense will still prevail in Georgia.
