In two weeks, I will officially be on an indefinite leave of absence from work.
I have a one-way ticket to New Zealand, a backpack and duffel bag of essentials, and a lot of thinking to do.
This may or may not end badly.

Im gonna say that it will end badly, but the road from here till the end will be a good damn time.

Now, see, you should have bought an open-round trip ticket so that you could actually come back without having to prostitute yourself in ancient Maori fertility rituals that might involve edged weapons.
Have fun, man.

Way to listen to your avatar..
You aren't married or have any kids.. so now is your chance to do crazy shit like this. Not sure this is the right time to basically blow your job off.. but hey, not sure there really is a good time to do that.
Good luck man... hope you find what you are looking for.

Ha ha, I have no idea what I'm looking for. I'm coming off a really strong year at work (I know, surprising after that debacle that was 2008), so I'm going to lose a lot of momentum. If I stick around with the only goal of making more and more money that I won't spend, I'm going to lose it.
Clearly from your posting history you dislike working.

lulz, I r bum. In all seriousness, I figure I've earned some right to be a little reckless. In slightly less than four years since college, I've:
- paid off $14K in student loans I took out on my brother's behalf
- bought and paid off my car
- helped my folks out with about $27K in cash and utility bills
- put away 10%+ of my income into retirement, plus employer match
- saved close to a year of post-tax income for emergencies
Didn't the last time you tried to do this, they just offered you more money to stay, and you took it?

I've quit like three times, but I've never tried the leave of absence route. This time around, I didn't get any direct offers of money, and there's really nothing reasonable they would have offered to get me to change my mind.
Good luck dude. Sounds like fun.

Auckland's Internet is pretty pimped out, so daily updates are pretty much a prerequisite. Unless my Ngigga is actually going somewhere else in New Zealand, which wouldn't even make sense, and would be beyond hippyland.

You've made it clear in the past that you made decent money at your position and had the opportunity to be successful.
You also have posted extensively about how much you hate your job.
My point was that maybe the corporate life isn't for you.
I have a friend who had a MBA and a very successful corporate job. He made 6 figures a year and lived on about 20k. banked every extra penny. After 10 years he quit and went on walkabout. After 2 years he married a girl in Denver and now hangs siding for a living. He also smokes a ton of pot every day. He seems happy, maybe this is the road for you.
