That is a handaxe (OHE) based weapon.

I notice some katana's on playershops say 'requires skill in two-handed and one-handed edged weapons to use' but some just say 'two-handed'. Is this katana above for someone who only has two-handed skill?

oh so it doesn't mean it takes both? it means it can use either? the use of the word 'and' had me confused.

If the katana in this post can be used by someone only having 2handed skill I'll do the minimum bid.

Newstyle katanas aren't mechanically switchable like bastard swords; you can't tell it how you want to swing it. If you swing it with one hand, it averages your skill in THW and OHE.

This means that you can't max OHE and swing it effectively. You have to get as many ranks of both that you can afford. That's why most people max THW and swing it with two hands and leave it at that.

ok so it's only if you swing it with one hand that it takes the average into consideration then?

Yeah. THW is the priority. It's meant to be swung with two hands, but katanas are light and fast enough to be swung with one.

I had a newstyle vultite katana. My mage only has THW training. I used GRIP to swing it two-handed and never had a problem.

I wish I knew how I lost that goddamn thing. :(
