One has to wonder what's bleeping wrong with the parents, for having marijuana and cocaine in their home, where an Elementary School Kid can find and take them to class ?!?

The parents are obviously rejects, they already had warrants out for their arrests before this. Poor kids. While I personally don't see anything wrong with using or posessing drugs in your own home, they should be treated the same way a firearm would be with a 5 year old in the house.

I used to pour mom's vodka into a "Mystic" iced tea bottle and pass it around during lunch. But at least we were in high school.
I got my drugs from friends, not parents.
One of the biggest problems at some local schools were i live is in elementary school (weed and crack) middle school (extasy and heroin) high school ( all of the above) gotta love living near a big city....thats why my son will be home schooled even the private schools have worse drug problems, rich kids get the good drugs heh

Speaking of firearms, I read something the other day about two 8 year olds and an 11 year old hiding a gun and some knives in the sandbox. They were going to shoot some girl during recess. I really debating on sending my kids to a military school or home school. Public schools seem extremely dangerous now days.

So what? The kid's gonna smoke eventually. This way he just gets a head start on his friends.

With an attitude like that I hope you never have kids. It's parents like you that cause shit like this.

Not all kids "smoke eventually," I never did. Plenty of drinking, sure, but something about the rest of it just doesn't interest me.
My husband teaches in a public school. It's in a NICE neighborhood, and the shit that goes on there is unbelieveable. He had an eighth - grader ask him where to buy condoms. He had one of his students wind up in the hospital, in a coma, after he was jumped by another group of kids after school.
They even had a kid in the SPECIAL ED class threaten to bring a gun to school and shoot it all up.
Yeah, I'm waiting until we can afford private school to start popping out those kids.
-K
Private schools are most of the time WORSE than public schools, the teaching is better but the children usually have access to too much money to get the "better" drugs. toys. cars. weapons etc. In my graduating class we started with over 1200 classmates graduating, by senior year only 356 graduated, over half dropped out 36 died, 19 of which were suicides, at least 20 or so we incarcerated and still are......in a private school a close friend of mine went to he had a class of around 500, 200 of which never graduated and the parties and such these kids had were outrageous in comparison to my lowly public school parties, the only true way to keep you children out of harms way is home school, but then when they get old enough to start going out they will rebel more and more because they havent been around the "bad" kids all their life and dont understand them or how to deal with them.
Just my little rant that may or may not make sense......take it as you wish

Everyone smokes up? At my middle school and high school, potheads were the minority. In the case of high school, they were the extreme minority.
Sounds like a bad commercial, but if you don't want your kids to mess around with drugs, talk to them. It's not completely the school's fault they start. It's your fault for not being involved enough.

My daughter's 15, but I'd sure as hell rather get her all the condoms she needs than be a fucking hypcrite and yell (I lost it at 17 to a 15 year old) and come home to find her crying in the bathroom and holding a EPT kit.

I don't think homeschooling is a good idea. Part of of the point of school, especially elementary school, is to form friendships with people outside the home and develop social skills. If my child decided in high school that they didn't like it and would be better off in an alternative program, that'd be fine with me, as long as it had an academic emphasis to it.
I understand that private school can sometimes be "worse" than public in some ways, but I do respect the academic results I see from those schools. Furthermore, if your kid is snorting coke in the bathroom, I'd be more likely to blame that on a failing on the parents' part rather than the school's.
My parents had plenty of money growing up, and I never had the cash to go buy a few baggies of whatever drug I felt like. I grew up around kids whose families were more than comfortable, but they still worked after school to pay for car insurance (even if it was insurance on the new car their parents bought them).

I agree with you there G, but it still shocked me. I know kids have sex at 14, but I hope it's not the norm. It is, IMO, way too young.

I know a woman who's gonna be a grandmother, sometime next month.
She's 37 years old.
I agree with the assessment that private schools are worse. I went to a Jesuit private Catholic high school, and some kids (and I knew one very personally) used to sell coke out of their lockers.
And you may THINK druggies are the minority in a school, Ed. But not everyone advertises the fact. As the dealers, and they'll point out the ones.
Hell, my friend said he used to sell cocaine to the Speech and Debate kids. They said it helped focus their thoughts and give them clarity.

It's worse'n that.
Boston Globe syndicates a column that a couple times a week is about teens and sex issues. Doesn't preach much, tries to give them straight facts.
Letter a few years back even shocked the columnist. 2 girls writing in, saying they want to learn how to do sex better so they can satisfy their boyfriends better. They were 12. I damn near gacked over my coffee.

EDIT: TheE's response to said video:

Mooshoo16: yeah
Mooshoo16: i told you
Mooshoo16: it gets worse
Mooshoo16: keep watching
TheEschaton: the report is just starting.
TheEschaton: this is 80% of your high school?
Mooshoo16: at least

Mooshoo16: i guarantee you those 5 guys are all virgins
TheEschaton: Well, of course.

I blame our local school problems on being a suberb of Atlanta, one of the most heavily drug trafficing cities in the US also we dropped a spot to the 2nd city with the most violent crimes, Yippee, I have friends little brothers and sisters who are 11-12 years old having kids left and right, i know a girl who is 20 and has 4 kids right know pregnant with a fifth, it may just be a BIG city problem or it may be a problem everywhere but children these days are for the most part parenting themselves from what i can see. And just think when we are all old and grey they will be running the country heh

edit: This always happened. This being some kids being fuggin lunatics. Blame the media for letting you know about it. But it's been going on forever (obviously not with guns and X, but the same kind of stuff).

It is entirely possible, Latrin. We had a bar down the street known as "the Canisius bar." The owner knew we were ALL underage, but didn't care. It was called the Shebeen, we'd always drink with these old Irish guys who were there all day. I guess that makes sense.
Canisius being the high school I went to.

Bottom line, most parents don't spend enough time talking to their kids now days or paying attention to them. Ask questions, get answers, know where your kid is, know who their friends are, meet their parents and be involved.

I pride myself in knowing I'm not a fucking retard. Not entirely, anyway. And because of that, I don't feel comfortable having my parents know anything about what happens when they're not around. As long as no one's dead, there isn't a problem.
Ask questions, expect to be punched in the face.

You're not a normal kid either. At 13 you spend how many hours a day on the computer? When I was 13, most my friends didn't even touch a computer, and if they did, we rarely did it for more than an half an hour a day, unless it was for homework. I still stand by my statement.

Then again, he's probably use to taking dirtnaps with his underwear pulled up over his head by now.

So you think most 13 year olds spend the majority of their free time on a computer playing text based games? I highly doubt that. Maybe they might play a few graphic games, but I think Bob would be a miniority if you did a survery of 13 year olds and their free-time activities.

Text based games? No. On the computer? Yes.
It's like the phone when you old people were kids, but better. Not only can you talk, you can play games, listen to music, and do your homework all at once, with relative ease. You can talk to 10 friends in one chatroom, another 10 in another chatroom, and a few more one on one in IMs. While listening to your favorite music, doing your English homework, or playing some Java game.

I agree with Bob (!).
Any time my parents asked me anything, it made me angrier at them. Every time I'd leave, my mother would ask, "Where are you going and when will you be back?"
I'd always answer, "I'm going where I'm going, and I'll be back when I'm back."
It's an advantage when you're taller than both of your parents, and they physically can't make you stay home.
Parents who nag their kids often know the least about them.

Sadly, Stunseed, that community is not the only one in which this kind of thing is happening. It is a sad commentary on how things are for our young ones today. :(

My parents asked a lot of questions. Some things I told them, some things I didn't, and I did my fair share of lying to them.
However, I always knew where to draw the line. Ditch class? Sure. Have boys over when my parent's weren't home? Yes. Drink? No. (I did in college, but never in HS). Drugs? Nevar.
Sure, if you'd have asked my parents, they would have said that ALL of the above activities were unacceptable. But I knew what would get me grounded for a week, and what would get me sent away from my friends for god only knows how long.
Make no mistake about it - if I had been found using drugs, I would have gone on complete lockdown. My mom actually DID threaten to attend every class with me once when I ditched too much - she would've done it, too.
Yeah, I hated them at times, but they were good parents. They were involved, as someone else said - and they knew my friends and my friends' parents. I also cared about having their respect most of the time, and I still do.

I think the parents thing really depends on the kid. My parents are semi-involved...they want me to tell them where I'm going when I go out, they disciplined me (never horribly strictly) when I did stupid stuff, the basic stuff, not too nosy and not 'OH LETZ BE FRIENDZ YAYZZZ.'
Myself and my brother prospered, my sister's 13 and been to juvie twice, had to do comunity service a few times, smoke(d/s?) pot, smokes cigarettes, probably drinks, and I'm betting she'll have her first kid somewhere between 16 and 17, and be addicted to crack or heroin by 20.
