A couple of dumb questions....

Hi hi, I have a couple of questions for all you computer type people;

basically, I have nothing to do at work, I am literally sitting at my desk browsing websites all day, I don't mind, im getting paid for doing nothing but I'm getting v.v.bored so....

I thought hey, I could just play GS from here, but when I tried logging in (using escape, not sure if its ok to download stuff here) but every time I try it wont connect to the game server, I'm guessing since I'm working for the local government they have something set up to stop it. Is there any way around it? I have no idea but im bored enough to wanna try.

The second thing is, I figured I would get AIM on here so I can chat to my friends but again, I'm not sure if I will be breaking rules by downloading it. I was wondering if anyone knows of a light version or if anyone else has had this issue, is it ok to download then un-install every day? I have no idea if it will still show up on here, or if my boss has some way of checking.

I would appriciate any help with this as my levels of boredom have reached world record heights!

your bosses will be able to tell what you are using.
If you work for local government, you will have to get through a harsh firewall and loads of 'real-time' stuff has problems in doing so, so GS probably wont work. Dont know enough about computers to know if there is a way around it.

Thanks hon, I found the AIM express thing which doesnt require downloading but it still wont connect to the server. I guess they have something that stops all of it. Ah well, I will just have to post here constantly to relieve the boredom!

oooh that hopster thing looks pretty good but I'd worry they would know I had downloaded it and stuff. Wish I knew more about the technical details!
I'm actually getting to the point where I wish I had tons of work to do, time goes so much quicker when my in tray is full. I even try working reeeeally slow to drag it out but then I get frustrated. Someone come and rescue me! (prefably someone tall, dark,handsome and with big thighs please) ;)

Is it worth getting fired over? I know someone who worked in a corp. office and for years spent time playing around online. One day came to work and got a pink slip because they had begun monitoring computer use and in a 40 hour work week was online in GS for 20 hours. Do not collect 200 or pass go.

well, i found that if i loaded the SGE and all its components onto a CD i could load it on my comp and the SGE would work around the Govt firewall (im not a techi so i don't know why this works it just does) but now they have installed a new program that allows the Techi's to sit and watch what i do on my computer from a remote terminal, that isn't good for the home team and playing GS, so im going to have to stop playing at work now or risk big time punishment.

Yeah, I figured its not worth getting in trouble over, I just wish they were actually employing me to do an actual job. I didnt spend all those years at university to sit here and play on a computer.... (or did I?) Luckily with this job I get to move around to different departments so I only have to put up with boredomville for a few more weeks. :)

I can never get the new version of it to work, but I can run the old version.

Can you look at any website or does your security block items with bad words, etc? I.E. I can't access bad words, any 'play', horoscopes and stuff :(

Had no problems with websites, I think its just connecting to servers, thanks for the info hon, im gonna check out the website you suggested in u2u too, I think everyone in my office is pissed off because they have so much to do and I dont. Mwhahaha

I cant use the older version of AIM express either, it just wont connect to the server, guess its the same issue with GS. I will deffinitely have to do some research to find a way around it cos it looks like I will have jack to do all week and all next week. /end whine
