I am both inspired and impressed by the level of concern that Republican leaders have shown -- in the midst of what is the most heated political war of modern history -- toward their misguided Democrat counterparts.
Speaking (http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=6263423n&tag=api) after the President yesterday, Senator Mitch McConnell warned his Democrat friends that if they pass this health care bill, then repeal of the bill will the primary campaign issue this fall, and it will cause the Republicans to gain many more seats in Congress than they otherwise would have.
Now that's compassionate conservatism! Even though the Republicans want to gain a lot of seats this fall, they still are willing to put aside their own self interest and warn the Democrats how to save themselves. That's something you don't see often in politics.
What other explanation could there be?
