View Full Version : Found some old Gemstone logs from 1997

Drew

I was looking around and found some old floppy disks with GS logs. 6 floppy disks full (which turns out is not much at all), mostly from around the time of the web transfer (summer 97) but a few from late 96 and a few from early 98. If you want me to search for your character in them let me know I'd be happy to.

Here's a few clips I pulled out just glancing through that I thought were interesting or funny:

[Fumbles's MagicWorks]
The bulkheads and deck of this chamber betray the combustible nature of the obscure ingredients used on a daily basis here--the bulkheads are blackened as well as singed in bright shades of sienna and bronze by the magic and heat. Strange implements and manuscripts are stacked, helter skelter, on heavy modwir shelves. Behind a flap hanging from the deck, you can see a work table and the blaze of a fire...and occasionally bright, incandescent flares that cast bizarre shadows upon the bulkheads. You also see some tan leggings, a tattered list, a large wood framed scroll, a blackened modwir sign, an ornate engraved notice, a carved door, a large Modwir display case, a large ironwood strongbox and a long modwir table with some stuff on it.
Also in the room: Ambyrmyst, Lady Jenissaelle, Lady Glorrias, Lord Olerin, Raddik, Dorthmar, Lord Klothar, Lord Grunk, Mtiferous, Lord Exxile who is seated

DATELINE JANUARY 2nd:

Local trainers announced today that the way people train may help them become more immune to physical damage. Long and exhaustive testing with warriors who were willing to throw themselves against claws and weapons with impunity discovered that they are indeed more resistant to physical attacks. Unlike their weaker counterparts who have spent all their days in some tower with their noses stuck in dusty old tomes and their mouths gorged with fat-laden tarts, or perhaps too busy hugging a tree instead of chopping a few down, the truly dedicated master at arms has honed his/her musculature to such a hardiness as to take a hit and shrug it off as a mere nuisance.

Further studies have shown that physical training regimens such as: 2 Weapons Combat, Armor Use, Shield Use, CM, Multi-Opps, Climbing, Swimming, Ambush, and Physical Training provide the most benefit to one's damage resistance. Combined with a good measure of melee weapons skills (One Handed Edged, One Handed Blunt, 2-Hand Weapon, Polearms, Brawling), all prove to increase physical vigor and robustness. In contrast, any magical training reflects a lack of dedication to the physical training regimen and those who are learned in the ways of magic will find their physical resistance lacking.

Type HELP DFREDUX at any time to see further details.

>news 28
DATELINE DECEMBER 14th:

Traveller's Song, 1020, has been modified. While there is no absolute guarantee of success, the age of the singing bard is now factored in. The older the bard, the greater the chance for a successful song!

>HELP DFREDUX
DFREDUX is the innate ability of a character to gain resistance to damage caused by melee attacks through training in certain physical related skills. DFREDUX applies only to characters.

DFREDUX is composed of primary skills and weapons skills. Both sets of skills are calculated to determine overall reduction in the amount of damage that is inflicted upon the targetted character. Knowledge of spells will reduce additional resistance modifier to reflect a lack of total dedication to the physical training regimen.

- Primary skills: 2 Weapons Combat, Armor Use, Shield Use, CM, Multi-Opps,
Climbing, Swimming, Ambush, Physical Training.
(e.g., the rank of each skill is summed to determine overall primary value)
- Weapon skills: One Handed Edged, One Handed Blunt, 2-Hand Weapon, Polearms,
Brawling.
(e.g., the rank of each skill is summed to determine overall weapons value)
- Spell penalty: the highest rank of known spell for each spell list known
incurs a penalty equal to n*(n+1); where n is the highest rank spell known
in each particular spell list.
(i.e., a character has 27 ranks of Minor Elemental spells and 10 ranks of
bard base spells:
the spell penalty is 27*(27+1) + 10*(10+1) = 756 + 110 = 866)

dfredux = [primary skills + weapon skills - spell penalty - special_1]

Note: Primary skills count for more than Weapon skills.
special_1 is an age based mod.

The DFREDUX modifies the damage factor of the attack directed at the character, reducing the damage amount proportional to the total dfredux value. A visit to the local trainer is all you need to activate (if any) dfredux.

Anyone heard whether they're be any degree of "un-fixing" for SoD associated with the Voln review? I'm pretty sure my Voln sorcerer has long since overflowed whatever variable GS stores favor in, and is likely sitting on -1048576 spins.

I was looking around and found some old floppy disks with GS logs. 6 floppy disks full (which turns out is not much at all), mostly from around the time of the web transfer (summer 97) but a few from late 96 and a few from early 98.

[Citadel, Outside]
Gentle breezes flow along the path, coming in from the west. Weeds and vines overgrow the path and you have to pick your way through them to avoid falling over.
Obvious paths: east, west.
Vailan followed.
>[Citadel, Outside]
The pathway ends suddenly, piles of rubble forming a barrier of sorts, only allowing passage in a few directions. Large vines and growths sprout up along the walls and overhead, blocking out all light from the sky above. You also see a zombie rolton.
Obvious paths: north, west, southwest.
Vailan followed.

A clean miss.
The rolton scampers southwest.

>Gargile just went southwest.

You say, "Naina's on"

You say, "25 of your year"

You hear a sound like a weeping child as a white glow separates itself from the zombie rolton's body as it rises, disappearing into the heavens.
The zombie rolton hisses one last time and dies.

>You put a war hammer inside your fringed doeskin vest.

My favorite part of this clip, other than fighting over "CHASE" was the fact that I hunted with an 18 second roundtime. And I'm wearing a fringed doeskin vest but probably had little to no idea it was valuable.

I didn't have the heart to include the clips of me singing Sugar Ray's "I just want to fly" in game. Terrible

Haha. Old thread I know. Did a search of my gs name and this popped up. I was Klothar. I actually remember buying that studded dark leather. It was awesome.
