The previous year has been a difficult one for the economy of Elanith. With the occupation, destruction, and miraculous recovery of one of the North's major ports, trade has reached an all-time low in the area, affecting even such frontier towns as Wehnimer's Landing and Icemule Trace.
A loose affiliation of merchants has banded together in hopes of bringing much-needed services to various towns in the region. Spurred by the urgings of spirited wool peddler Sareenah Aufdhuum, this group has formed a caravan that will be visiting several cities and towns beginning on Niiman, the 4th day of Charlatos.
The first city to be visited is Kharam Dzu. In honor of this caravan's hard work, the Isle's governing bodies have agreed to relax its restrictions on inexperienced adventurers to allow all access to the island for a limited time.
Solhaven, Icemule Trace, Wehnimer's Landing, and other towns will follow soon afterward!
Anyone have any insight beyond this? Sounds like it might be a lot like WoE how I'm reading it. I hope so!(Only without the bugs)

Best thing about it to me is I'll be able to get my rock toons to Teras and not have to meet them on FWI for gem tasks anymore! W00T
EDIT: Fail for being spineless

They've done this before, where low levels were able to get onto Teras, and at the end of the event they all get teleported off.
Sucks, Teras is going to be overrun. At least we can play Dragon Bones!

Mmmm... Dragonbones. EVERY WEEK FOR FOUR WEEKS!
I haven't played since the days when Paul was running it. I still have fond memories of rolling the bones and winning ~76 million silvers for Glimmin. At least, I think it was Glimmin. It's been too damned long.
I got a nice tip for that one. I think Paul splatted me with lightning at some point during that game, too. Either way, it was fun.

Back in February of 04...
.
Ninmah nods as you bet 15600 on Dragon's Master.
The bones stop spinning, and fall to the table as Ninmah exclaims, "Dragon Master!!"
.
The maw got to 650+ million that night (biggest ever at the time) and then a few days later...
.
You just won 30000000 on a bet of 12!
You just won 2000000 on a Dragon's Lair bet!
You just won 7000000 on Any Dragon Bite!
.
Funny thing about that last one is that I wasn't paying attention (was talking to someone) and I misread the 0's. I was betting millions at the time and so thought I had just gotten my money back. It wasn't until I paid more attention to everyone congratulating me that I realized what happened :D
I think that was a Spitfire run. I had INCREDIBLE luck that event. I got a bunch of merchant work done AND I found a really nice 5x weighted weapon from the first run of the digging game.
Best merchant event ever for me.

Paul killed me and insulted me more times then I can count, though the best part was having a GM pull me up the next day asking where the 290 million silvers I had depositted the night before had mysteriously appeared from heh

It's basically craps with some additions. I've attached all the 'documents' pertaining to it (open it in Microsoft Word if you're using Windows 7).
Here's my tips for a beginner...
- Script your way into the Dragon bets.
- If you can get to the game as it's just starting.. try your hardest to bet Dragon Master until the price reaches your "I don't want to keep putting money on it.." threshold. My 15k bet yielded 66 million.
- If you've never experienced it before do your best to get in a Dragon's Blood run. It's really.. intense..
- If you've never rolled the bones before, whisper to the NPC running it and ask if they'll let you have a turn (usually they go room order).
- Dragon's Lair (bet X on LAIR) is the safest bet. Until you get a feel for the more advanced techniques I'd bet small bets on Lair.
..and finally.. here's a tip I saved..
Ardwen whispers, "2 3 11 12 any lair when 100k or under then vary ammounts." [basically he was saying that he pretty much just always bet the max (when it was 100-300k) on 2, 3, 11, 12, Any, and Lair]

Level restrictions are supposedly lifted for the caravan. I would assume you can take the boat, but the chronomage office is in the travel office, the shop in TSSW. Head south and down, I believe.

Just curious...
Is there any reason to bust my arse to Teras right away if I am otherwise indisposed elsewhere (because you guys know the caravan is coming through ALL major cities eventually this month, right?), other than the "FIRST!!!111!!!!oneoneeleven!1" factor?
Do the wares "deplete" when they are bought in Teras, never to be restocked, or does it pretty much all get reset when it goes from town to town?
Thanks...

I don't think the wares would deplete, or anything like that. Off-the-shelf merchandise really isn't the point of these things like it used to be, anyway, especially in an event that will eventually come to every major city in prime. You would multiply your chances of getting merchant services performed by attending as many iterations of the caravan as possible, and probably have a shot at some contests/raffles that may not necessarily be exactly replicated at other locations (though a system has gone into place dividing raffles into major/minor categories, and usually only allowing you to win one major raffle per event. Anyone's guess as to whether "per event" would be per stop or per the whole caravan in this instance, if such a classification even applies this time). And the more festivals you attend, the more Dragon Bones you play.
So probably not the end of the world if you miss one, no, but if I'm available, I'm going to as many as I can. What's so important in the Days of our Gemstone Lives that you'd rather miss a free(!) festival?
NicAlbion
03-04-2010, 02:50 PM
Kind of a disappointing 'festival'. Nothing really noteworthy or fun to do.
a series of interconnected tents, a holly-strewn rickety pale green oak wagon, an agate-inlaid carved fel wagon, a plum-hued bourde tent striped with dark amaranthine lines and a black wooden wagon.
Teras. Bazaar Central. So far no merchants, but they're pulling tents and wagons verbatim from CCF, complete with backrooms set up for merchanting. Very little wares for sale at the moment, but looks like they're doing more services than anything.

- If you've never rolled the bones before, whisper to the NPC running it and ask if they'll let you have a turn (usually they go room order).
That process has changed. The NPC now only picks the first person to roll the bones, and once they hit dragon strike (i.e. crap out) , the person that was rolling picks the next person to roll.
Four runs of DB could deplete my bank account. Hmm.

sJ>l table
Stretching almost the length of the room, the table stands at approximately 4 feet in height. A railing almost surrounds the entire table, providing a place for players to lean as well as hold their silver. A green covering stretches across the inside, an imprint of a gigantic dragon meticulously etched into the covering and sides which seems to move under the dim red lamps.
You don't seem to have any bets on the table. What are you waiting for?
The maximum bet is 1250000.
No one has the roll right now.
The Dragon's Maw contains 585,386,585 silvers.
I added the commas in to make it easier to see how much was actually lost tonight. For the record...that's 81,303 silvers lost every second.

Does anyone have a log of them reading all the signs and rules and everything? If you could send it to me (asrial@sprynet.com) I'd really appreciate it :)
I can get it next run but I'd like to have this guide available for people before then.

Minimum bet amount: 1/10th the amount currently bet on the table.
Payout: Your original bet AND all silver currently bet on the table.

The game of Dragon's Bones hails from sometime during the First Age. The exact origins of the game are lost in the depths of time, but are believed to have been created by the Arkati. However, this is the ONLY game of its kind. These bones are unique. Several games have been created in an attempt to copy Dragon's Bones, but have been unable to attain the same quality and excitement. It is said that the dice were created from the bones of deceased dragons by their Arkati servants to honor them. Nobody knows for certain whether this is true or not, we will never know for certain. All that is known is that these bones possess many strange and unidentifiable magical properties. The creator of the game understood this and established certain special bets to take advantage of these random occurrences.
The rules are simple: Someone rolls the bones. People bet money as to whether the roller (called Slayer) will be successful, or unsuccessful. There are several other bets which are impartial to the slayer's success, and are only for one roll. This means that the bet only lasts for ONE roll. You are betting on the outcome of the bones on the next roll. If you bet correctly, you are payed off according to the odds chart. If you do not bet correctly, then your silver is swept into The Dragon's Maw!
Other bets last for several rolls, and are only dependent on whether the slayer succumbs to Dragon Strike, or gets the Quarry. The bones are passed to a new slayer whenever the current slayer hits a Dragon Strike.
Play begins with the Fly Out Roll. At this time, there is no Quarry to try and capture. People betting with the Slayer are hoping that a 7 or 11 is rolled on the Fly Out Roll. People betting against are hoping for a 2, 3, or 12 (All of them known as Dragon Bite). If the Slayer rolls something other than the previous numbers on the Fly Out Roll, that roll becomes the Quarry. To win, the Slayer MUST roll the Quarry again before a 7. For those betting against the Slayer, a 7 is the only way for them to win their bet. If the Slayer captures the Quarry, then he keeps the bones and is on a new Fly Out Roll. And the process begins all over. If ANY of the Dragon Bets hit, the Slayer retains the bones, AND the next roll will be a Fly Out Roll.
There are several bets that can be made which have nothing to do with the Quarry. Most of them are only concerned with the Slayer rolling a 7 before whatever number is bet upon.
There are TWO types of betting: Normal Betting and Dragon Betting. You may make as many normal bets as you wish. If you do make a normal bet, you will be unable to place a Dragon bet. Only ONE person may have a particular Dragon bet.
For Bet types and Odds payout, read the chart.

There's also a.. I think it's a ring of tents that lets you kinda-sorta do some simple cosmetic altering to your items. I didn't play with it very much, and was a bit disappointed that two images I really wanted weren't available for the embroidery, but there's still a number of options to work with and is a quick way to add some stock decoration without having to hope you get picked by an alterer.
As for those 2 sailors that charge gems (diamonds, emeralds and sapphires all seem to work, unless they're getting more particular).. They've now become my favorite merchants. I love those guys!

Now, Paul/ex-GM Khaladon has repeatedly posted in response to reputation comments, with jeers directed at him involving what are mostly negative reps involving a possible sex dungeon that he executes command over. I took the liberties to unite HandBanana's world-reknown reputation as a serial rapist, which I specifically edited to make a response to Inspire with. I then pondered the vaguely close relationships between sex dungeons and rape.
I finally posted, "My money's on Khaladon," signifying that my altered log was actually a GameMaster; who, with the previously mentioned Adult Swim character and sex dungeons, would imply that I most likely (feigned) an attempt to link the two together, and then comment upon the farce I created.
Edited to include: I need to go fap.

The first problem with this is you thinking you have a thought process. :)
Only the edited comment is believable.
The rest of it, heh.

This just happened at the merchant caravan in Landing (Suza is a merchant) and I thought it was pretty damn awesome.
Boreus smiles at Suza as he slowly looks her up and down, his eyes seeming to drink in every line and curve of her body. Then his eyes meet hers and he seems to stare into the depths of her very soul.
Edited:
(Boreus's eyes narrow and stare at Philomel very intently, his face loses all expression making it impossible to guess what he might be thinking and he stares like that for a good thirty seconds leaving you to wonder, then suddenly his lips lift slightly on one side of his mouth and he winks.)
This guy is magical. I think I'll sit here in the wagon even after I get work just to see this stuff.

He was wearing really over-sized all-encompassing platemail so you couldn't see him pop wood.
Huh? Did he do two separate acts? Aren't those acts somewhat lame?
Yes, yes, they are. They are awesome in the sense that they inspire my awe. I am awed. He just did another one, too.
(Boreus wraps his arms around Jodia in a comfortably tight hug, his chest pushing against hers slightly. His right hand caresses the small of her back, while his left brushes the back of her neck lightly and his breath tickles warmly in her ear.)
It's not really bad, not like the first one was. Just oddly inappropriate in a tiny wagon stuffed with 30+ people.

But... but... ->
(Boreus takes Suza 's hand in his, turns it palm up and with a flourish of his cloak bends over it and kisses ever so softly, just inside her wrist touching a nerve just right so it sends a sensual shiver up her arm. Still holding Suza 's hand and bent slightly he looks up and stares intently into her eyes.)
This is so great I can barely stand it.

After re-reading the initial text of the event I'm not so sure it's going to Illistim.
It specifically indicates the western side of Elanthia's commerce as being impacted by the destruction of Solhaven, to which the caravan is trying to stimulate.

A Secondary Caravan? 3/22/2010
GS4-STANDARD: This information is of interest to GemStone IV Standard players.
Time: Mid-evening
Location: Ta'Illistim
General Info: Rumors from travelers on the road have mentioned several wagons, different from those recently seen in Kharam-Dzu and Solhaven, moving together towards Ta'Illistim. Their arrival, if the rumors are true, should put them into town sometime tonight!

Looks identical to me... at least right now:
[Ta'Illistim, BriarStone Court]
Ringed by stone buildings, the view afforded is one of the bustling heart of Ta'Illistim. The center of the court is a bustle of activity, as throngs of citizenry and travellers pass through the western center of the city on their way to various destinations. You also see a colorful modwir wagon, a holly-strewn rickety pale green oak wagon, an agate-inlaid carved fel wagon, a haon and polished fel wagon, a floral-patterned bright silk pavilion, a plum-hued bourde tent striped with dark amaranthine lines, an oversized mahogany wagon, a black wooden wagon, a series of interconnected tents and a wooden barrel.
Obvious paths: north, northeast, east, southeast, south, southwest, west, northwest

You see Renowned Lord Tsin.
He appears to be a Half-Elf from Riverwood.
He is much taller than average and appears to be in the prime of life. He has piercing blue eyes and naturally sun-tanned skin. He has short, golden brown hair styled in chaotic spikes. He has a clean-shaven face, a flaring nose and slightly pointed ears.
He has a rune tattoo on his arm.
He is in good shape.
He is holding an aged ruic longbow in his left hand.
He is wearing some enruned midnight blue leggings, an ivory shirt with long narrow sleeves, a sleek shadowy crystal pendant, a tiny golvern whistle, some padded dragging gloves, a darkly tanned hooded cloak, an enruned golvern pin, a deep purple ora Jakarta crest, a flowing white robe, a dull gold ring, a flexible coraesine belt supporting a tiny orb-shaped pocket, a weathered bag, an ankle kit, and some black padded boots.

Expecting people to always have their gear flawlessly sorted at all times assumes that they care a great deal about other people really drinking in their appearance when they're looking at them. Some players dress up their characters for the sake of bringing something in their imagination into a marginally more tangible state. That is, they created the character to enjoy for themselves rather than for you to virtually examine.
Further, the effectiveness of sorting gear greatly depends upon the memory and imagination of the individual viewer. It just might be that your ability to recall the items and visualize them on the character in the proper locations falls a great deal short of the other players expectations. Not sorting gear could allow for a more realistic approach to noticing a character. Specific details may present themselves as more memorable while others will be forgotten rather than allowing the character to be examined piece-meal from head to toe. Though, this tendency may also vary between observers.
The fact that the leggings appear first should not indicate that the leggings are worn on their head (if by nothing else, we should know they are not based on a priori information: that they may only be worn on the legs). On the other hand, perhaps the player does wish to give the impression that they're wearing leggings on their head and are using the subtleties of the sort/wear mechanics to illustrate this. In such a case, their mastery and use of such mechanics are superior to your own and should not be subject to your criticism.
