My apologies in advance for posting with a throwaway account...
-Still somewhat of a newbie, even after 14+ yrs in and out of GS
-Currently experiencing serious strains on RL free-time
-Have decided that dying less in Nelmar/OTF is the only way to avoid another 2+ yr hiatus
So...
I'm looking to purchase a 10x DB pin for ~$1300. Would consider paying more if someone can show me a way to keep it safe from corpse looting.
Sorry for the smoke and mirrors, but my character has always kept a low profile, and I don't know enough about merchanting to do this without drawing attention to him.

Free time is rare for you, and you're filling it with gemstone?

Not an issue in Nelemar. And if you are a capped anything, you don't really need it in Nelemar unless you RP a naked warrior.
As for OTF, keep this script running:
WAITFOR you have died
PUT exit

And avoiding corpse looting is fairly easy...
depart
depart confirm
Potions are a lot cheaper than losing nice shit.

Scatters the only excuse I can find for wanting one. MIU/AS for the WIN!
I know squares can't wear much though freshly capped. Would be another reason to want a DB.

if I hunted the rift, I'd want a 10x DB. 400 offensive DS won't cut it in brig.
Ohh yeah....

How can you be a newb in OTF/Nelemar short of buying a character?

For the Scatter, you'll want your DS to be in the mid-400's when you're prone and in offensive stance (self-spelled).

All of this points to fish. Good luck in the sale, but credibility is pretty much required in a sale like this. Anyone with a DB *ANYTHING* won't deal with a mystery unless you're tossing all security into their court and leaving yourself open to a scam.

FYI, OTF doesn't loot DB items so you can stick to your guns on the $1300.
With expensive items and cash purchases a lot depends on reputation. A whole lot since it's really easy to screw the seller. If you've been around 14 years you probably have someone who can vouch for you who is well known and that would help. On top of that, DB items just don't move that much, still I wish you luck in buying one.
i have a 2x DB pin that I'm not in love with, but it will take a lot to get me to part with it. Depends a lot on how much I've been drinking, and I'm perfectly sober right now.
edit: I mean ring!
Also I would just buy a 10x DB cloak. It's cheaper to buy a cloak and alter a deep pinworn than buy a DB and keep your current cloak. That's what I did anyway.

Thanks all for the feedback. I was not aware about OTF not looting DB items. I typically depart/confirm immediately anyway, but will rest a bit easier knowing that.
I am still several trains short of cap, and die enough slow deaths while knocked down or stunned that I would expect the additional DS to significantly improve my survivability.
I was under the (potentially false?) impression that pins were by far the most common type of DB items, but I would be interested in any boots/cloak/etc or combination thereof to get +50 DS.
I have probably played about 40-50 months worth of GS over the last 14 years; I suppose that hardly qualifies me as a newbie, but is does seem like less than the majority of active players. Still, I should not have a problem assembling a cadre of people to vouch for me. I would also be happy to go through a universally trusted intermediate if preferred.
And, yes, I will readily reveal my character & RL info to any potential sellers. I just wanted to make sure this thread didn't end up like that poor doofus who tried to peddle his army of Half-Krovlin money makers last month.
I haven't done a survey but to me I'd say it's cloakworn-pin worn-all other locations. There are a lot of cloaks out there (on a relative scale). The problem is more of what am I going to sell mine for, what could I buy with the coins that would be better? 10x DB are the ultimate undervalued GS item and it's hard to induce a sale unless someone is leaving the game or in financial straits.

How can you say 10x db items are the ultimate undervalued item? I think they're pretty highly valued. $1300 is undervalued? That's roughly 170 million silvers today... more than a 10x db item has ever been worth in my recollection.

If you look at the price of a lot of items going for more, I don't think they are fairly valued.

Only thing I can think of that has gone for more than that recently is the tonis boots, and relative to those, 10x db items are a dime a dozen. Useful to be sure; no doubt about that, but I'd just say I disagree that they're undervalued. Personally I'd say that 170 million silvers is overvalued.

Very few things are as mechanically beneficial as a DB item, especially a 10x item. I think a few moved recently for far less than they were worth, and now I believe people think they can pick them up on the cheap. That being said, I think Drew and I are a bit bias, heh.

Historically, they've been valued at or slightly higher than 10 million silvers per +5 DS, with the cloaks being at the lowest end due not to lack of usefulness but due to their being the most common. Best deal I can recall seeing was when the SHM bought the 10x wizard's hat from Starsnuffer for less than half what this person is offering for a 10x. On the other hand, the 2x pin worn that was recently sold is the highest price I've ever seen paid. Add in this offer and I think you can confidently say that they are at peak price over the last 16 years.
Now, that means one of two things: either they're overpriced now, or have finally reached a price that accurately reflects their value, after 16 years of languishing.

PM sent. I have a 10x pin-worn that I'd consider selling, but it goes nowhere without a solid recommendation from someone I trust.

Put it up for auction, sheesh, could probably get a ton of offers and trades.
I know i would.

I have a few high-end items that I plan on getting rid of sometime soon. I just keep not getting around to getting all the information in postable, provable format. I haven't said I'll definitely sell to whoever this is, just consdiering. I might hold onto it and get an auction going all at once with my other stuff.
