Adjust training to 1x ambush and add Summoning lore?

I've been rolling around the idea of going from 1.5x ambush to 1x, and then picking up some ranks in summoning lore. Anyone have an opinion on this? I'm an archer.

A few summoning ranks aren't worth much, if you're near cap and you can get 36 (I have no idea what the math is like) go for it.

Definitely get summoning lore, IMO. 36 ranks is a key threshold for 605 if you're looking for a starting point. Extra spike/fury cycles ftw. That said, this is assuming you don't have any AS problems. My ranger had +50 ranged enhancives, so getting by with zero ambush was fine. Take it as you will.

how many summoning ranks before you see significant returns? i have 11 ranks and I see the 2nd cycles fairly frequently, i'd say about 25% of the time but I will run bigshot tomorrow with spike only and do it a little more scientifically.

so i'm under the impression that ranger spell ranks and level effect damage, and summoning ranks effect cycles. correct?

does any stat play a part in spike?

11 ranks won't do much for spike. 635 and 610 respond better than 616. 616 starts getting better around 30 ranks. For instance with 36 ranks you have a 36% chance of getting an extra cycle in spike. It's pretty easy to figure out, just take your summoning lore skill divide by 2 and then subtract 30 and you'll have your total chance of getting an extra spike cycle. So at 11 ranks you have 0% chance of getting an extra spike thorn cycle.

okay. and a full single cycle is considered 4 lines of damage? because often i get a lot more

No a full cycle has a lot more than 4 lines.

No, but 45 ranks is a threshold for many of our spells. Depending on how many ranks you can afford with the TPs you recover from ambush, I'd consider throwing a few of your total lore ranks into blessings. 6 or 11 ranks of blessing lore is a cheap way to get a couple of useful defensive bonuses.
