Connecting to GS through Tetherbot on my 3G phone

So... I'm not sure if this is the right section of the boards for this question, but I figure if it's not, someone will tell me.

I have Tetherbot working on my Android phone, and use it as my internet connection for my laptop when I'm out and about. The speed isn't the greatest, but the convenience is great.

How can I connect to GS through this connection, though? I can surf the net through Firefox's proxy server addon, but I am clueless about how (or even if there is a way) to get Psinet / Lich / Stormfront / the Launcher to rout itself through that same proxy server.

I'm running Windows Vista on my laptop, and have the UAC disabled. I was able to get lich and Psinet to play nicely, but so far no luck with anything further. I've been lurking here for a while, and know there are some pretty technically apt people, so thought I would pose the question and hope for the best.

Not sure about using tetherbot though, is that one of those progs that bypasses having to pay your cellphone company charges for connecting?

The tether program I use sets my G1 up as an ad-hoc wireless access point, GS works fine with that. I'm not sure why you have to use a proxy on your tether app. Is your android phone rooted?

Tetherbot is a way (supposedly) to get my Android phone to function as my modem (when connected to my laptop) without rooting said phone. I've held off on doing that because I don't understand it all that well, but I've seen lots of people talking about how easy it is, etc.

Connecting to the game through the website just gives me an error when the FE loads, then I'm left staring at Psinet's login splash until I get bored and end task it.

Looks like I get to try and do some research on rooting my phone. Anyone know of a good (trustworthy) guide out there?

I'm using wireless tether for root users. Can you tell me what phone you are considering rooting? I can give you better advice then.

Are you sure the proxy server isn't blocking it?
