My xbox crapped out on me.. red ring of death.

Of course, the extended warranty went up two months ago. Still pushing Microsoft, but obviously they are not being terribly helpful.

Thats xbox for you. Sorry to hear though. I've been through 4 RROD's myself.

I've had mine for 5 years and managed to avoid RROD so far.

It probably has something to do with me never using it.

In all fairness I abused the shit out of it. When not gaming it was almost permanently on Netflix.

That sounds very familiar. Although I have to say youre very lucky (or unlucky in the case of warranty) to have gone 3 years without having it RROD on you. Try calling them and arguing relentlessly? I had a friend do that and he got his fixed outside of warranty.

Just tell them you're going to buy a Playstation and that you're going to lease your tits as ad space to Sony unless they fix it.

I'm arguing with them right now, and hope hope hoping they take pity on me and fix it.

I'm gonna save the PS2 boob adspace for when negotiation gets heavier.

If they get any heavier you're gonna need a brace...oh you said the negotiations, carry on.

Witty shit to say overload.

Let's just assume it was awesome and move on.

We're arguing over how long I've had the xbox. They maintain it's been over 3 years but I know for a fact that's bullshit.

I got it using my debit so I'm going back through those records to find an exact date.

In the meantime, no CoD goodness or catching up on Heroes for me.

Is this your first RROD on that console?

Yup! I had one issue before where it wouldn't turn on or anything, but I just disconnected it all together, restarted, replugged it in and it was fine.

Wow, it lasted a long time considering it was probably in that original batch. Keep bitching at Microsoft. This happened to a co-worker recently, and eventually they took it back, but he had to pay to ship it to them.

I think I forced my Xbox to RROD. It would only RR when I put it on 1080p going through component cabling after leaving it on for a while. If I put it on 720 it had no issues at all. So after two years of having it, I did that for a while got my info off of it, RR'd it and took it back to costco for full refund. Bought a new one for cheaper and got 100$. Got one that had a bigger HDD & a HDMI port. <3 costco

I'm right about the purchasing date. I dunno how they came up with over three years, it's been a little over two.

They are still being assholes, but I will continue to be a bitch.

Ok, hopefully they will fix it, but, if they don't, apparently you can fix the RROD yourself. Co-worker did so using this method:

I have had THREE x360s die on me! THREE!

And I have had them fixed free everytime, even replaced the power cable last time and they paid all shipping, gave me a new extended warrenty and 30 days free xbox live gold.

Keep pushing Nikki!

They want me to pay shipping.

Part of me thinks I should take it, the other part wants to push some more.

Fight the good fight, try and get some other concession, a free year of xbox live or something which costs them nothing really but unrealized revenue.

Hugs,

A console breaking out of warranty is suddenly entitlement to a free $50 service after they were nice enough to forgive the $99 to fix the console?

NicAlbion

Thank whatever Deity you would thank that I know some people who'll fix it for like 30 bucks.

They're going to pay the shipping, so I win!

And nothing happened to it. If you don't mind forgoing free or cheap repairs for full-priced ones on account of your moral compass, by all means do so. My morals say 'Fuck you MS!' and I will be sleeping soundly tonight.

I agree with Bob, what happened to capitalism, and buyer beware? ;)Actually megacorporations operate under megacapitalism, which clearly states that while they can ruthlessly pursue monopolies and private armies, consumer-slaves are encouraged to try and rip them off at every opportunity. Run in the shadows!

With the RROD issues they had and the age of the console, which is known to break so much they had to change their policy on them, yah, I think she was entitled.

And when it breaks please demand it to be shipped and fixed for free. I'm with Bob on this one, once something is outside the warranty if the company does anything extra you say thanks you don't think you just stuck it to the man.

Mighty Nikkisaurus
02-18-2010, 08:35 AM
It's not about sticking it to the man, it's not spending money I don't have to spend.

They could have told me to fuck off and I'd have had to deal with it. *shrug*

AnticorRifling
02-18-2010, 10:27 AM
See I read the "I'm still pushing Microsoft" and "In all fairness I abuse the shit out of it" etc etc as I should deal with it but I'm going to stick it to the man.

Mighty Nikkisaurus
02-18-2010, 10:37 AM
To me, sticking it to the man implies I'm making a statement/doing it for some sort of moral purpose. I'm doing it because I'd prefer to spend 100 bucks on more shoes and not having it repaired.

Maybe I'd feel guilty or bad if it was a small company, but I can't feel bad about haggling with Microsoft.

NicAlbion
02-18-2010, 10:49 AM
They know it'll break down again, so yeah, don't feel bad.
