View Full Version : DS Loss via Encumbrance

I'm not sure the level of research that's been done on encumbrance. I know Porcell did some massive research to figure out various things (dealing with silver weight and such) and I know there's been people who have determined the levels and breakpoints and such..

..but I'm not sure if there's been much research into the actual DS loss you get hit with.

I just encountered something a little revealing when I was testing my shield size program while heavily encumbered. My thought was that since all I was needing to find out is the DS gain/loss from no shield, to small shield, to medium shield, to large shield, to tower shield.. it didn't matter my state and whether the DS was accurate or not (just as long as the difference was).

To my surprise.. the difference was not accurately predicted. This is NOT a failure of the program or the math. This is the interaction of encumbrance.

I theorize that encumbrance affects ONLY dodge DS.

Thoughts? This may be something I explore later but not at the moment.

It (at least) used to be totally uncapped. I remember seeing Edaarin being run through large ogres one time with a DS that was -100 and something due to carrying a millions billions pounds of silver. This further suggests that it could be an addition-based modifier as opposed to multiplication-based, so it wouldn't technically be restricted to any form of DS. NOVAESKYE did a ton of research on DS in general, if you can find him or his findings you might get a head start.

Once I get some stuff taken care of (IE: the shield size project) I'll come re-visit this and post why I think it's JUST DODGE DS that gets the encumbrance hit.

That was the New Porcell with all of the research. The old Porcell is back.

I got swung at carrying 10 million silver and my DS in defensive was like 380. Normally with the spells I was wearing it would have been 600+ so the effect is large.
