Two news items today on the wires.

First is the hotel bombing in Baghdad. Some fuckwad reporter on the radio said "It is believed that Islamic militants may be responsible." No fucking shit, Sherlock, didja think maybe Swiss monarchist terrorists are carbombing Baghdad because not enough people are eating Nestle's chocolate?

Second is the report that a Tennessee county's petitioned the state for the right to enforce the state sodomy laws and ban gays from living in the county. I can only wish that they all get assfucked by a fishing gaff.

Third is that Martha Stewart and Michael Jackson still exist.

Somehow, I doubt it is a hoax, Galleazzo. I can easily imagine the same thing happening here in South Carolina, and Tennessee is just across the mountains. The land rises from here to there, but IQs do not, sadly. ;)

Memphis (my home town) has a large gay community. Lots of clubs that cater to the gay and lesbian sector. I have learned that it is sort of unusual for a TN city. Makes me glad I can say that about Memphis at least. I sort of hate for people just to 'lump' areas of the country because they don't know any better. The South isn't the only area of the country where prejudice is alive and well.

My friend, born and raised in Buffalo (which is a pretty close-minded town to begin with) was nevertheless shocked out of his head when he moved to NC, and started delivering furniture. He's white, and any time they had to deliver in-state (IE, not near the shore, where all the transplanted Northerners are) he would run into towns which had Ku Klux Klan statues in town square, portrayed as war heroes (one hoof raised, etc, etc). One town, he swears, had a billboard at it's entrance which said, "Nigger, don't let the sun set on your head in this town."

And this is 2002. Scary shit.

I will say there are still KKK rallies in towns around the South. That doesn't mean the entire South is prejudiced. :rolleyes: They can't be stopped from assembling. They have the right. (unfortunately)

White-supremacist groups can be found in every state. I think when you (general you) talk about the South it is more about classism (rednecks, hillbillies, crackers) than about racism. Are there prejudiced people here in the South? Yes. Is prejudice restricted to the South? Nope.
