Do any of you guys have educated thoughts on how well this game will do vs. expectations, will it be as successful as WoW, is it likely to be delayed etc?

Thinking about pitching ATVI as a buy and I was hoping maybe some people here who followed the industry closely would have good perspective on its potential.

Thanks

All I know is that they consistently seem to produce some of the best games out there.

Time and money providing I'll check it out although I don't want another time sink.

I currently picked up my old copy Civ III since I can't find my Civ IV disc and having fun with that. An entire day can go by with these games and you won't even know it.

Anyways SC is fun shit.

Ooo I just remembered I have a copy of Home World around too that game was fun as well. Can't wait to get an OS on my computer and stop playing these old games.

It's doubtful that it will be as successful as WoW... clearly, SC and RTS in general has a much smaller fanbase compared to MMORPGs... that said, though, SC2 will end up being the best-selling RTS of all time. If they don't fuck it up. And I don't think they will; they've spent far too much time trying to perfect the game as an e-sport.

Keep in mind that Diablo 3 is also coming down the pipe... likely sometime in 2011... and that'll sell a shitton too.

3 out of every 4 Koreans will buy a copy of SC2, at least!

That's actually one of my biggest problems with it, they're overbalancing it (GEMSTONE!), because of the serious competitions that have sprung up around the game. With so much depth to the system it's nearly impossible to get things perfect, but you know they're trying to because it's blizzard. I always thought part of the fun of RTS games was figuring out the good 'overpowered' route to take.

Odds are it will be delayed. Blizzard doesn't ship new titles until they feel they are ready, and, are completely fine with delaying ship dates. I would be too as long as the wow cash train is rolling. As far as sales go, you're probably looking at a few million units sold the first week (I would say around 5 to 6 mil minimum, assuming a simultaneous world wide release), with probably another 50% of their total units sold being pirated.

Starcraft 2 has the potential to destroy wow's release day sales away, as far as units sold. Considering it's a long awaited sequel to one of the most popular RTS games. Yes, it will have a similar release success to wow, but, long term it will not generate as much cash, unless they come up with some monthly subscription model for the new Battlenet.

I am looking forward to playing it, but not looking forward to purchasing a computer to play it.
