Since you know, R.Kelly isn't a band.

Mine is R.Kelly.

I'm kidding (though, Trapped in the Closet is a work of..something). I'd say Pearl Jam, or Hum. This is different than what you are listening to at the moment..what do you listen to most?

Prine is fantastic. Going to see the Dead on V-day. Can't wait.

But I'd have to say Bela Fleck.

Clutch took some getting used to, but on a long car ride to see Mastodon (and Dethklok, and Converge) I definitely acquired a liking. I seen them on the first Sounds of the Underground tour and didn't feel they fit the bill well but were probably as I like to call them, "the best bar band ever".

Seen Bela in South Bend with very little knowledge of what they were all about and I'm definitely a metal guy in appearance. Un-fucking-believable. I know of Vic Wooten as I'm a bassist but Bela..that just isn't right. Classical music on a banjo ftw

I haven't heard of clutch. I'll have to give them a listen.

I was lucky enough to have a jam session with the flecktones a couple years back. They're far better than they even appear on stage.

I lol'd at Hum. I have one of their CDs, You'd Prefer an Astronaut (I think), but I only ever remember 'Stars', their one big hit.

There are a couple of bands I've been listening to most of my life, but it'd be tricky to nail down one that I could call 'favorite'.

I guess if I could have any band's discography on a desert island, I'd choose Our Lady Peace or Smashing Pumpkins.

If I could only have one album, I'd choose Nick Drake's 'Pink Moon', but I'd probably kill myself after a few days.

Avett Brothers are my favorites of the moment. Last concert I saw was a band called Romantica, which I saw at a jazz club in Minneapolis called The Dakota. Great place for live music. Romantica wasn't their typical fare, but they're kind of branching out a little bit. Romantica's latest album "Control Alt Country Delete" has some interesting stuff on it.

I made the mistake of standing close to Coheed at Warped Tour. The nice thing was, I was taller than all of the 15 year old, screaming girls. The downside being, the 15 year old, screaming girls. Between Claudio's shrieking and theirs I had no high end in my hearing for a week. Amazing band though, they got me into a lot of other bands via my friend showing me them and then going down the line to Brazil, Hopesfall, etc.

Smashing Pumpkins, if they would have broken up after Jimmy went to rehab. But instead they made shitty music. But Siamese Dream is still the best album ever.

Counting Crows, if Adam Durst was clinically depressed all of the time. Sometimes he's happy - and then he makes shitty music. But August and Everything After is the fourth best album I own. I won't say it is definitely the fourth best album ever, but it is pretty damn good.

Weezer, if they had said "haters gonna hate" after Pinkerton and kept making good music - but they didn't, they made shitty music. But Pinkerton is the third best album I own. So that's pretty good.

I guess that leaves Rage Against the Machine, which really hasn't made a bad album ever. Sure, some tracks on the Battle of Los Angeles aren't great. But they are all at least good. And their self-titled album is the second best album I own, and Live and Rare and Evil Empire are also in the top ten. Plus, live, they are without question the best band to ever play a live show. They is really no doubt. None, at all.

Everything Weezer made after Pinkerton is a certifiable pile of shit. I remember seeing the bassist from Weezer on Jay Leno who made an unexpected visit to his house when he goes around asking random questions about the presidents, constitution, etc. The dude lived in a straight up 1 bedroom apartment it appeared haha. So I suppose they started focusing solely on marketability as opposed to credibility. Pinkerton is a perfect album..especially for your awkward teen years if it came out then for you as it did for me.

I didn't get into them as much when they were actually together and relevant. A few years after by someone else insisting, I went back through their 2 full lengths. Musically, they have an explosive drummer and really great chord implementation for a band that drop tunes occasionally. The singer I suppose could take some getting used to but I listen to a lot of bands that most of you probably wouldn't even consider remotely singing haha.

Tomorrow? Who knows. Breaking Benjamin, Everclear, Pearl Jam, Train, Blues Traveler, Sarah McLachlan, Matchbox 20.. whatever strikes my fancy.

I don't understand people who don't like a genre. Genres barely mean anything to start with, plus artists regularly wander around the genre space from album to album or even song to song. Bruce Springsteen is the greatest musician and poet ever, and some of his stuff is clearly country music, some is clearly rock, some is clearly R&B, etc.

I guess what I'm saying, Stan, is you no @ country AT YOUR OWN PERIL.

There'd be no heavy metal without Sabbath. I played in a cover band when when I was a teenager (playing bass). Geezer Butler is crazy as shit, I didn't realize how intricate some of their bass work is. Of course that goes without saying in Led Zeppelin's case as I feel John Paul Jones is hands down the most talented member of that band.

They had a guy filling in on drums when they did EARTH tour that is a friend of mine from The Number 12 Looks Like You. I toured with them in my previous band so they helped put a good word in initially. They just caught me at a time in my life where I shouldn't yet again give up everything just to barely get by living in L.A. I didn't play on the new record so I wouldn't get paid for that, etc..

Haha, an awful lot of music related crap that pays nothing. It cost me more than I gained except for the experiences and travelling and that. If you want to delay responsibility in life and party, be a touring musician. If you want to keep your woman or job or home, do not.

I think my favorite band might be everclear, but it's very hard to pin down. Offspring and dropkick are up there, too. I listen to music across pretty much all genres, so it's hard to choose on band or another. Eh, it's very hard for me to choose a single favorite band. Almost as hard as picking a favorite author. Or a single favorite movie! I just enjoy too many genres to pin it down to just one, and it always depends on my mood. But I'll list some favoriteS. Doubtless, I'll think of more that I should have included later.

Guns 'n' Roses

Black doesn't show the blood stains but it sure as hell shows off a lot of the fur.I am legitimately frightened of you, but to be fair I scare easy: once upon a time I legitimately sought out a priest to exorcise my house. I was young! Peter will deny me in a few hours, three times will deny me, and that's not all!

Pat Benatar
BACK-ON
Slayer
The Offspring
D'espairsray
The Prodigy
Elvis Presley
Nine Inch Nails
David Bowie
Queen
Chingon
Nina Simone
N.E.R.D.
Peggy Lee
They Might Be Giants
Santana
Basement Jaxx
Alice in Chains
Flogging Molly
Tupac
Mucc
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
Rob Zombie
Dragonforce
Tool
Dieselboy
Freezepop
Ladytron
Scooter
Slipknot

There're more, but that's off the top of my head. All of them had to have at least one full album that I love 75% or more of the songs on.

You just might be the coolest chick ever. I can't decide between you and viridian asp. You did forget ZZ Top and the Rolling Stones though :p

Not much for listening too regularly but its fucking hilarious, metal + rap + classic: Crotchduster - Octopussy - Big Fat Box of Shit

Also I would have though Jhina's fav band would be Storm Troopers of Death

Mmm, yes, forgot ZZ Top, definitely. Rolling Stones... depends on the era. I do like them but there's no single album of theirs that I LOVE every song.

Disturbed, by a long mile. Out of four albums there are maybe 4 songs I don't absolutely love (and even those I don't dislike). Not to mention they are one of the few bands I've seen live that sounds remotely like their recorded stuff.

Others near the top:
As I Lay Dying
Killswitch Engage
Sonic Syndicate
Atreyu
All That Remains
Evanescense
Hollywood Undead
Anberlin
Breaking Benjamin
Blindside
Chevelle
Pearl Jam
Saosin

Radiohead
Depeche Mode
Spoon
Pinback
Decemberists
Elliot Smith

I like everything really (311, Sublime, Jimmy eat world, Our lady peace). Those are my favorites though.

There was a time when I listened to almost nothing but Elliott Smith and the Beatles. So sad we had to lose him.

My overall top 15 (since 2003) on last.fm is:

Animal Collective
The Beatles
Elliott Smith
Radiohead
Wilco
Wolf Parade
Neil Young
Man Man
M. Ward
Ted Leo and The Pharmacists
Sunset Rubdown
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
Explosions in the Sky
Tokyo Police Club
Arcade Fire

BigWorm is a college rocker! Such a good call on Explosions in the Sky. My best friend is nuts about the post-rock. I lack the attention span to fully appreciate it sadly.

college rock as in the genre, dunno if you're a student or not haha.

I love me some Arcade Fire. Wilco has some great songs and some songs that just completely bore me. I've seen them a few times over the last year or so, but missed out at their last shows at the Pageant. Hoping to catch them and Radiohead in the next year or so.

I know quite a few that don't. I guess my love for Radiohead these days is more nostalgic. I remember when The Bends, Ok Computer and Kid A first came out and how amazing those albums were especially in the context of the other music being released at the time.

After that, Amnesiac, Hail to the Thief, and In Rainbows are all decent albums, but nothing all that special.

I've found they're really in the 'love em or hate em' category.

My favorite album by them is Kid A and a lot of people who love Radiohead have told me they hated that album, and for the same reason I hear a lot of people cite about not liking them in general.. too depressing, I guess. Which is true. If I were to list off the top 10 most depressing songs I've heard, a majority would be Radiohead, heh!

I've hated everything released after Kid A.

Junior year in HS, I used to play The Bends on repeat over and over and over and over.

I was never a fan of any of their work. At all. In a general way, I like music you can dance along with or scream along with. Metal, hip-hop/rap, techno, rock, et cetera. Sometimes I like things that are fun to sing along with, like old torch songs and the like. I prefer angry songs to sad songs. Screamo to emo, as it were.

I don't like progressive anything (just goes on for-fucking-ever...) and experimental irritates my ears in the same way. Also, I seriously dislike high-pitched noises. The occasional guitar solo? Fine. But that falsetto grates on my nerves...

2+2=5 is a great song too. I wasn't so much into In Rainbows but overall they are a great band. Kid A and Amnesiac are amazing too for the break from their early style.

These guys. I was at the Alice in Chains show in Hollywood this past Saturday and right after the show I turn around and there's Danny Carey standing there talking with some people. I see a lot of stars living around LA but I was starstruck. I wanted to say something but I didn't want to bother him. I still don't know if having Danny Carey within 5 feet of me was more exciting than the AiC show.

Favorite band since discovering them in 04 has been The Acacia Strain. For fans of heavy music, this is where it's at. Fun guys to hang out with, great live show, consistently heavy music. I dare say these gentlemen have "swagger".

I'm also a big fan of hip hop, though. Biggie, Jay-Z, Nas, Pun, Wu (group and solo releases). Trance too. Can't get enough of Deadmau5 lately.

My first concert was U2 and I still listen to them on the reg.

I listen to lots of shit basically. Metal/hardcore in the gym, hip-hop/trance in the ride.
