View Full Version : Arachnissa? (It's long, move along if you want)

I don't keep logs, so you'll have to trust me.

I'm goofing around in game Monday with a friend in River's Rest, wiping out a warcamp. Someone dies, we get the corpse back to the town center, there are a bunch of people sitting around chatting. Ask if a cleric is about, no answer, ask the directions to the town cleric, get a couple of wise ass remarks, but still no answer. Fine, we decide to drag the corpse around to likely places on our own.

I comment out loud 'I hate the people in River's Rest" just as the leader pulls a U turn and heads back to the center. Oops, it's not really my "characters" feelings, but I said it out loud in a group, so it's part of the game now, and let's roll with it. We get in a fun little argument and I call them all a bunch of inbreds, and state there's no point in being polite to them because I've never gotten a raise in RR anyway. How can it get worse? (It's true, I once spent and hour chatting with people in RR, walked off, died, and decayed without so much as a locate. But this isn't a complaint against the River's Rest people.) All in all it was a nice little roleplaying moment.

I'm in the middle of a large group hunt with friends last night, and ended up having the following psinet chat with. It's from memory, so this is just the general gist of it.

Arachnegirl: You're capped and warcamping in RR? I thought Pogy was nice.
Me: Huh? Yeah, I stopped by to help a friend do warcamps, and Pogy generally is nice.
Arachnegirl: You burned all the warcamps near the citadel the the low level people rely on.
Me: We wiped out one camp of 500, that's hardly newbie fodder. There are a ton of camps, and more will generate. What's your point?
Arachnegirl: Oh, sometimes two of us get together to clear camps.
Me: I don't understand what your point is?
Arachnegirl: I remember Pogy from Solhaven, she used to be nice. We risk death when we try to get to the camps in the moors. Why are you so mean? You used to be so nice.
Me: This has nothing to do with nice or mean, it's just a warcamp in a silly game. There will be more. This conversation is over.
Arachnegirl: Ranty rant rant you are so selfish and mean and hateful and a jerk just like your selfish mean hateful rant rant rant.

Random commentary added by me:

- I thought initially she was wondering why Pogy was mean with the inbred comments, but NO, it's about a freaking war camp! A war camp? Really? A war camp? (To paraphrase Iverson)
- Try not to mix OOC with IC. Pogy was bratty in the town center, but hunting a stupid camp is neither mean nor thoughtless IC or OOC.
- I switched to GOS last week after I hit cap a month ago.
- My character may be capped, but sucks hunting mechanically with limited sigils, and a pure locksmith training plan. I got the chance to hunt with an empath and a bard. Sweet!
- War camps are renewable resources.
- Clearly you had staked your claim to this camp by knocking it down from 500 to ... 500.
- Apparently two level 20 characters warcamping is more virtuous than three level 90-100 characters from an OOC standpoint?
- My camping in a ghost town like RR, is safer for weaker characters overall. Around the landing, I constantly dash out of camps the second I see a non guard grim.
- My RP of this character hasn't changed much since level 1. If anything she's more nervous, and afraid of the tall people's world than ever.
- In character, you suck. Sunfisters are sworn to destroy Grim, your character should be pleased.
- Who the hell names a character Arachn-whatever and then role plays a cheerful helpful persona? It's a game, try to stay true to your initial vision of your character. Don't roll up an edgy spider priestess name and then be the nicey police.
- Your gaming experience , your time, and that of your friends, is no more valuable than mine.
- Your ranting through chat was mean and selfish, it interrupted a group roleplaying activity. If you want to rag on me some more, do it here.
- Stop being such a hypocrite control freak and just enjoy the game.
- Yes, Now I'm being an asshole.

All other things aside are irrelevant after the stupid comment about low level characters relying on those camps. That is the dumbest fucking thing I have ever heard. And the name sucks a huge one. Plus it's RR so I agree even more.

No, you're ok, you are being a dick, but in a good way.

What else irritates a thin-skinned cunt like a good dick?

As long as no one touches my camp in RR im good! I stick to one area and only do camps there and usually make it widely known too lol

was pretty funny seeing like 10-12 camps burn the past 2 days in rr though.

especially when over half of them were 300+ critters

as far as getting a locate when ya die give it at least 5 mins before you decay, it takes awhile sometimes down there.

the arachnichick should replace her tampon imo

I'm sure destroying 12+ warcamps with 300+ numbers in a single day was for group roleplaying and not powerhunting reasons. Good RP man.

To be fair, lower level characters would find it quite difficult to get to any camps in the miasmal forest, where the creatures are in the mid-30's at least. The areas around the Citadel, however, are closer to level 10, so are much easier to get to. There have been some posts on the officials as well from people saying that camps in lower level areas have been hard to find.

While the approach may not have been the best, there is possibly some good reason for it. Someone else wiping out all the camps in places a character can safely get to can be quite frustrating. Still, the other character is perfectly within their rights to take that camp, since there is no way of laying claim to it.

oh it wasnt me, I have burned a total of 4 camps, I only solo them.

I was just pointing out that over the past few days I have seen a couple large groups of camp burners come through, was kind of funny. not saying it was the OP or anything, just saying

another fun thing about RR camps is there are ALWAYS camps in the mazes (mist/jungle/forest etc) but then again anyone under 20 will need an escort to get to them.

Never got into GoS - how can anyone be reliant on something that's only existed for a year or two in GS?

droit

Because it's changed character migration dynamics. Thanks to GoS, you can stay in any town for as long as you want, even if there is no normal like-level hunting. So a high-level character living in RR would be reliant on grimswarm for exp.

I cleared one camp in RR.

As an aside, I always hear about the "stellar" roleplay in RR. Never once have I seen it. I have dragged numerous characters there of numerous levels. It's either blatant ooc or silence. I guess everyone just starts acting in character when Scribes is around.

I love the town itself, the people suck.

On Monday I cleared out 4-5 warcamps of 300+ in RR. Only one was around the Citadel. But, go ahead, blame me. I want a reason to clear out a room with this 1718 scroll I just found.

I guess this explains the posts in the RR folder about capped people wiping out warcamps in RR.

Capped Pogy in about two years. I still feel like a newbie at times. I didn't try to cap, it just happened because I have way too much free time.

Yes to the TWC gnome girl.

Yuck. I just poked through that thread in the RR folder.

I really don't like GemStone extremists very much.

[EDIT: I was going to respond on the officials with a lengthy post of my thoughts but, I just don't care anymore. I think that really does speak volumes about the quality of GemStone these days.]

Is there some benefit you get when you kill the last remaining Grimswarm?

If you took a 300+ camp down to 30.. IMO you cleared the camp.

If you took a 300+ camp down to 30.. IMO you cleared the camp.

If someone razes your camp, you lose the prestige and exp from razing the camp (1000/400xp), the potential prestige/exp from your raze task (5000/600xp), your "Camps Razed" credit, and potentially all of the loot from the supply chest. It is in fact a good strategy to leave all the looting for the very end; the more boxes that pile up in the chest, the better the loot is. If you loot after every excursion, you'll just get shitty boxes. If you clear a huge camp before looting, you'll have 20+ boxes with a good chance of having weapons and enhancives in each one.

So I'd call it a big deal.

i have had it happen to me twice in rr took one down from 300 with only 12 left someone else razed it

took another down from 250+ to like 40 and it got razed in around the 15 mins I was resting..

it is a big deal and it sucks ass
