What just happened?

You nimbly pick through Fornoxx's things and come across something that feels valuable. You close your fingers around it, but something goes terribly wrong!
An almost imperceptible thread of pure black magic makes itself visible to you as it issues forth from the item in your hand and coils about your body. It writhes around you momentarily, wavers, and dissipates harmlessly into the air.
You reach into Fornoxx's spidersilk backpack and pull out a blue spinel.
Oh well. wands are clean <grin>
