View Full Version : Spells or redux as an archer?

Well, I was thinking. It'd be really nice to be able to cast myself my own lores. I've got a decent amount of extra Physical Fitness (if I cut it down to 1x, I can get 1 spell and have a few extra points too). I'm sure I've got some other skills I don't need either...

So my question is: Are less skills (in general) worth self lores whenever needed?

None of my archers pick boxes. I never would be able to live with myself if I only went half assed on one thing or the other, so I always go all or nothing.

I'm more of your classic rogue...but instead of using swords, I use bows because they're better. 2.5x in picking/disarming, and fully trained in the other hunting stuff. I've just been picking up extra PF to get redux eventually. But it'll take a long time (I'm not even 2xed), and being able to self-lore myself seems like it'd be nice.

Skill Name | Current Current
| Bonus Ranks
Armor Use..........................| 140 40
Ranged Weapons.....................| 156 56
Ambush.............................| 156 56
Physical Fitness...................| 126 33
Dodging............................| 156 56
Arcane Symbols.....................| 90 20
Disarming Traps....................| 166 66
Picking Locks......................| 165 65
Stalking and Hiding................| 167 67
Perception.........................| 184 84
Climbing...........................| 90 20
Swimming...........................| 90 20
Pickpocketing......................| 156 56

Those are my current skills. I was thinking about cutting PF down to 27 ranks (1xed), and I could probably handle cutting down swimming and perception, too.

Well being a ranger archer i dont know how it works in that situation for rogues. I do think that the redux is definately worth it. I know hunting inner ward of varunar and shan my redux(10%) has saved me more times than i want to count. especially since lords wield lances. My vote would be for the redux.

Maybe it's just because I was spoiled by redux in GSIII, but dux in GSIV doesn't matter one iota to my rogue. With the ridiculous amount of DS I can generate self cast, won't even get hit most times, and as an archer rogue you should be in the shadows anyway.

EDIT: Before I converted Edaarin to brawling, his training plan was

70 ranks of armor
2x ranged
2x ambush
1x PT
2x dodge
30 climb
30 swim
3x pick
3x disarm
3x hide
2x perception
2x pickpocket
20 arcane symbols
10 MIU
11 HP for 40 mana total
6 spells (up to 406)
