Anyone see the premier this weekend? I'm kind of biased because I really enjoy Eric Stoltz' acting in just about everything but I enjoyed it. I can see lots of ways it could turn to suck... but so far so good.

YES
I was excited by the Smoking Man's cameo. I think Bill Adama's character could have been older, the show seems a little young-happy, but it's still really interesting to see him pre-everything. I feel like they're going to explore the religions in much greater detail with this series, which has always been a fascinating part for me. I can't WAIT until the older Cylons come into play.
The backronyming of Cylon was weak, the racial tension is trying a little too hard and the Taurons a little too Mafia, and there's a surprising lack of strong female characters so far, although I have high hopes for Sister what's-her-name.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, there is an advanced civilization on the cusp of inventing sentient machines. Approximately thirteen seconds after they do, the machines rise up in bloody rebellion. The war ends when the machines mysteriously withdraw, but ~30 years later the machines suddenly murder billions of people, putting humanity on the brink of extinction.
This series takes place between the first and second sentences. The mother series was incredible because of its writing, acting, and cinematography, but none of the actors have returned for this show for obvious reasons. There are also probably going to be significantly less space battles and genocides, but significantly more civilization drama.
WATCH IT. [Emperor voice from Episode III, to Anakin Skywalker] DO IT.

I agree Latrin on the young-heavy characters but to be fair Bill is supposed to be young, he's just a child, the series is starting out about Josef, Bill's pop and Apollo's granddad (but Josef could have been older). No strong female character's yet, but if the actress that played Attia in Rome (the sister what's her name in Caprica) stays in, I'm sure she'll end up being just as powerful as she was in Rome; I mean why waste her talent otherwise?
It could go to suck if they overplay the religious terrorism and racist theme too heavy. The Taurans seem to be a mixture of mafia/Italian/Greek/Middle-Eastern a little cliche but hey it explains Bill Adama's swarthiness :D
I totally missed the Smoking Man, I thought you meant it metaphorically since Eric's character is always smoking (when do you see THAT anymore?)

"Find my fingertip!!" "Fuck you, asshole!!"
I want to retract my "no strong female characters" bit because I am heart-struck by the alternate direction the series has taken: characters who have had their lives obliterated by immeasurable personal tragedy. In a sense, these characters are the daughters of Dualla, and in retrospect this angle deserves further inquiry. I'm also curious about the mechanics of massively multiplayer marriages, and the notion of Admiral Adama being a ne'er-do-well youth. Arrested! Man!

Impressed so far. I watched the pilot twice and it runs pretty deep. I'm surprised by how much this really like it will be a prequel to BSG.

I would have thought with as many storylines as they're currently juggling, they would have avoided introducing yet another. I don't see how they can do justice to all of them unless they go to 2 hour episode format, which would be awesome.

I am waiting on this show to come out on Blu-Ray...I just haven't been able to follow it with all these side stories. It is almost getting Lostlike at this point. Good character development though...but not enough focus on stuff us old BG fans wanted to see...yet. I'm sure as time gets closer to the war that will change.

You're quite wrong. I know who my father is. He's lying next to me in a hospital bed. He's currently in a coma.
Real classy. Prick.

I will be misquoting this in the future to prove why you should have a talk with Chris Hansen.

Not super psyched about the last episode, but the previews for the upcoming season seem promising.
spoiler.
It just feels very inelegant to close up so many plot lines by killing the chief characters involved with them, and it really makes the dead characters feel like they were merely means to advance the plot while alive, which sucks.

All the little subplots were starting to get on my nerves. So if the wife dies, that would actually make me happy.

I'd be happy if they killed some off/took some attention from them to focus on Joseph Adama, Daniel Graystone, Zoe Graystone and Sister Clarice. The others are important supporting characters but I'm CT on this one they've been spending so much time on subplots that it's taking something from it for me. It's great for developing characters but... it feels excessive and sometimes pointless. I get it Clarice needs to get inside the Graystones via Amanda but did we really need so much detail into her troubled past? I also get that Joseph is motivated by his longing to have Tamara back and that she was "uploaded" with Zoe into a virtual existence, but did we really need so much of the "ghost in the shell" subplot, etc.

I definitely agree that they've got too many hats in the air, or however that expression actually goes, but (for instance) they went to the trouble of setting up the psychiatric facility, why not just have Dr. Mrs. Graystone go there? Instead of bringing Spike in to play Barnabas and start an internecine STO conflict 3/4s of the way through the season, why not devote more time to Bill Adama or that bald police guy? We haven't seen either of them for about 4 episodes, and I'm a lot more invested in the Admiral than in terrorists murdering each other.

Yeah.. I think the plan by Sci-fi (they did this with Stargate: Universe and Warehouse 13) is to create half a full season (even though they have the rest of the season already) so there's not such a huge wait between season 1 and 2.

Maybe season two will come into better focus.
And on a side note IMA punch somebody in the nuts if the opening episode of V isn't good. I already got suckered into DVR'ing and watching the season review episode. What a waste of time. When were the original four opening episodes? Like 3 months ago? Sheesh.

WTF is all I can say so far. I'll be seeing the second episode tonight, but the first one just left me without words. I don't think I like where it's going anymore, but I'll watch because I need to find out how this turns out.

Not impressed with Caprica this season so far. Giving it a few more episodes to warm up.
