I was literally 3 ranks into my fletching script when I get the 'Your nose seems to be itching from fletching to much' message on the screen.. I mean it hasn't even been 3 minutes yet.. and they're trying to get me already? Why because I started a new account, and they don't want someone with a trial account gainin exp. like people who actually pay? Sort of like the whole 'You can't AFK script but you can MA 5 characters at once' I know a guy I used to hunt with, I've NEVER seen him with less than 3 char. in his group. One for spell ups, one for picking, and a bard to sing up his other char. AS-DS. It's horse shit, just because I play one character and ONLY one character. I can't run a script for 5 minutes? I guess it's ok if you spend 100x 35$ a month to roll up a thousand characters. But god forbid you only pay 15$ a month.. They'll be all over you.
btw I only have one account..

Ahh the "But but but he can do it" defense.
Random checking up on people is random. That being said I'd probably watch trial accounts more closely because they are "new" to the game. Just to make sure they aren't having problems or to ensure they aren't someone bitter rolling up a throw away to do some dumb shit.

I dunno about it being random...
I've got 8 afk scripting warning across two chars supposedly. I'm almost certain it isn't that much but when I challenged it they asked me if I would like to see the dates/etc.
To be honest, their policy of more tedium less fun is what causes this. Its a bad game design and they only seem to be making it worse. I understand the concept of RPG and having goals and it taking a while, but there are better ways to do it.
Also, I really don't see a problem with afk scripting SO LONG as you're not affecting someone else's playing environment.. Hell, who even interacts with anyone anymore? Is your ability to make arrows going to affect someone else? Naw, they're just butthurt because they grinded and it sucked and didnt have the intelligence to script it. Unfortunately I dont make the rules though.

Fletching is really easily scriptable, extremely boring, no danger, and people tend to do it afk more. I wouldn't be surprised if they just check on fletchers more than anyone else.
Besides, no one new to GS is going to immediately start fletching, it's a dead giveaway that it's a trial account of a current/returning player, who is much more likely to try to afk script the first several boring levels.
You just set off a lot of red flags IMO ... take your script check, respond, and move on, I got script checked fletching, I responded in character, and got an RPA out of it.

I've given up on being that polite in response to script checks. Plat GMs seem to spend more time script checking than doing anything else. Better yet, most of them have never done forging and don't know what messenging is generated by a command and what is automated as part of the RT. I tend to go with "I'm here, you're a moron, now leave me alone."

This is what bothers me the most. Instead of being constructive and trying to lessen the REASON to script they do this.
I know most GM's are not involved in developing anything in game, but if they spent half as much of their time trying to learn whatever language GS uses for game code or writing game content instead of trying to bust the afk scripters, we'd have a lot more game content. Obvious cat is obvious.

My #1 problem with script checking is the way they do it.
I personally believe some of them try to send what I call "sneaky" messages so even if you are ATK scripting, you miss it.
GM's:
Quit sending plain text messages, they're hard to see in scroll.
If you really are checking someone to see if they're responsive, take 5 seconds, pop into the room, announce your presence and have a conversation.
Taking 60 seconds out of your day to talk to the customer you're trying to smack down will go a long way. You will also be able to clearly tell who's AFK and who's not.
In the end, if you pop into the room, and they carry on doing whatever it is that they're doing. You've got them, and people can't complain that ... I didn't see the message, bla bla bla.

Fully agree, sure scripts will be able to recognize that it's happening, but unless the script sends out a txt message or something then it's not going to be able to act appropriately.
That and anything sneaky they do won't be that hard to detect, there is predictable messaging in game, if the messaging doesn't line up with what's predictable, it's pretty easy for someone's script to respond to the fact that things aren't normal, and if the GMs need actual contextual reaction to what's going on, there's no point to something easily missed by people who are there like your nose itching. (In that's actually easier for someone who's scripting to detect than someone who isn't).

People are smart, and can code around certain things. I personally don't believe there is anyone currently playing that is smart enough to code a character to have a conversation with a GM and have appropriate, timely responses.

I was afk for about 15 minutes yesterday morning and got tagged in rats by Itzel yesterday. Was guilty as fuck too.
Yes, I am a GS criminal.
I was busted by Itzel as well.
The sad part is that I was ATK. My excuses ... I wasn't paying attention as well as I should have, I used MAGIC in my script to see if a spell was active before casting it, causing massive scroll, and she sent a plain text message that looks like screen scroll and honestly, I'm not going to read it if it looks like screen scroll. Try to heal in TSC when it's busy and you quickly learn to filter out what's important and what's not.
I'll be honest, I always run at least 3 characters. I don't enjoy the game playing 1 character, I like to use multiple characters working together. I am always at the keyboard if my characters are moving, talking, doing anything. If you give me a decent chance to respond, (Knock me over: Auchand), or (Whispers to me: Ayas?) I will respond.
Knocking me over is plainly obvious that you want my attention and you want it now.
Whispering to me shows the text as Highlighted, so it appears as an important message.
However, sending a plain text message, I'm going to ignore it, and then I'm going to ask you GM, why you're trying to be sneaky instead of giving each customer a fair chance.
Do you want people to play this game or not?
PS. I wrote to feedback and complained about the way Itzel does script checking. It's just a dirty, sneaky way to do it and it's not fair to the customer.
One last thing I didn't like, is that s/he sent a plain text message to 1 of my 4 characters, they were all moving, they were all doing something, but only 1 was checked. However, 2 of the 4 characters I was using at the time, were issued warnings, even though only 1 was checked.
So apparently they can issue you a warning for being unresponsive, even if they never check you for being AFK.

Yeah, but it's like stealing back when there were people to steal from.
Sometimes you give them a chance and did it from plain view.
Sometimes you were sneaky about and just nabbed em.
Depends on the mood, seems similar with GM's regarding scripting.
Some do it to get your attention, some just do it sneakily.

Some do it to get your attention, some just do it sneakily.
Any business who chooses to treat their customers this way will be disappointed, because they're only making the game environment worse for their customers.
I cancelled 2 accounts after that warning, I wrote to feedback to express my disgust at the way the script check was done, and that a warning was issued to a character who wasn't even checked to be AFK.
I also ignored pretty much every spare line of text that I don't need to read so on the off chance that a plain text message is sent, I'll see it. I fixed my script, so it no longer uses MAGIC and causes massive scroll.
I'll do what I need to do to protect myself, but hopefully some GM's read this and consider what we're saying.

Itzel is a plat GM. I swear most of them learned their sneaky script check methods trying to tag my forger. I've made numerous complaints, to no avail, about the type of script checks favored by most GMs. My last warning came while using a script that required me to enter a trigger word for every command and only helped me to keep track of what step I was on. It's draconian, pointless and further emphasizes the "more tedium, less fun" mentality that is rampant in GS these days.

But c'mon. It's simutronics.

Simutronics as a company, treats people decently. Billing is uber awesome and most of the GM's are great and fair.
The problems people complain about are from specific employees in the company.
That specific employee may not give a damn how they treat anyone, but if we together complain about the actions of that one specific employee, hopefully they'll be terminated or coached so they can begin to get customer satisfaction instead of so many complaints.
Not to pick on him, but Emeradan used to get a ton of complaints and look at him now. He no longer controls the message boards and complaints made about him have gone way way down. (At least IMO.)
My complaint all stems from not being offered a chance to react properly. I think they need to update their policy on script checking.
No more plain text messages.
You must knock down the room.
You must announce your presence.
You must have a 30-60 second conversation.
If you can pass the test, you're set free, if not, issue warning, check for previous warnings, issue lockout if necessary or tell the customer, last chance.
Some scripts will get up and keep moving after being knocked down. Clearly obvious that they're AFK scripting. If you announce yourself and they don't respond, again, clearly AFK. If they can't complete a flowing, makes sense conversation, you get the point.

I think the GM's should try to find people who are truly AFK scripting and they're not going to do that when they take actions like I've mentioned above.
I was looking for a positive outcome for all, instead of the negative nancy you want to be. I'm not looking for them to conform to how I play. I'm looking for them to come up with a "script" of their own for script checking. This "script" would be used by each GM, the same way, each and every time, so each player is treated equally, and given a "fair" chance to respond to the gaming environment.

While I do agree that using methods that could get lost in scroll is not optimal, using something 'standardized' might not be the best way, either. Chances are, people would simply set up other scripts to trigger when they notice the standardized script check. I'm not sure if trying to get around scripting the script check would be more trouble than it's worth, or would just result in what we have already.
But then, maybe other people know of ways to do it. I dunno.

I think as long as they don't issue a warning until after they've pulled you into a lounge, there shouldn't be a problem. They can do whatever plain text type messages they want, if they feel warranted, pull you, and give you 30 seconds (or whatever) to respond, then I don't think there would be any room for complaint.

So I got "caught" scripting about two weeks ago. I was in referral at the time, though he says he wasn't answering it. I was watching hulu in a smaller window at the time and just didn't notice him talking to me. He didn't strike me as trying to be rude, but more boasting that he caught a scripter. Yeah, I know, dumb on my part. Aside from that, tell me if you think he was out of line at all. Also, I never even noticed, until now, that I was script checked before he even talked to me. Very hard to see.
The script checks are at the top of the log. His conversation is at the bottom.

< PS. I wrote to feedback and complained about the way Itzel does script checking. It's just a dirty, sneaky way to do it and it's not fair to the customer. >
Your post on the officials was hilarious, as it was obvious some of your tears were making the keyboard stick.
Edited to say : I'm sorry my post after was pulled by the Simutronics company.

I felt like he was kinda cocky about it. Like ohh, I just caught this big fish, but I'm gonna put it back in the stream. Not at all displeased with the outcome. Just an observation.

People are smart, and can code around certain things. I personally don't believe there is anyone currently playing that is smart enough to code a character to have a conversation with a GM and have appropriate, timely responses.Tell me more about appropriate, timely responses?

I think the should just spam a random OOC message that would be clearly visible. Honestly, if its not in your characters RP to respond a certain way.... You are in a room... by yourself....

I feel that those are wrong. http://forum.gsplayers.com/showthread.php?t=61696 (http://www.chodecircus.com/area51/) explains those better.

there was a player back in the day that had a conversation bot for the game. Was pretty damn convincing for a couple minutes.
Wish I could remember his name.

I love how you're obsessed with me. It's cute, in a stalker-like kind of way.

Yes! Something like that! Obviously something that asks you different questions each time about other random subjects so scripts couldn't work them but yeah.

They have scripts that ask you questions, but they aren't so visible. There is also a message that comes across like a send that basically says that they think you are scripting and asks for you to respond.

I just happen to find you to be a piece of shit in general, and frankly what you are crying about happens to be a bitch move. Waah, I can't 4 account and Tsin Jr, if GS is that important to you, Matrix that fucker up and have 4 monitors, because Alt+Tab doesn't equal being at the computer. You are not paying attention to the screen, because you're running another persona/character. Until then, keep crying and making pity-party posts for someone to soothe your e-emotions.
Rummage in your couch and find a quarter and call someone who gives a fuck about your four accounts, and how feedback's GOING TO GET THAT NASTY ITZEL FOR RUNNING A SCRIPT CHECK ON YOU.
Seriously.

I love all the neg. rep I got for startin this thread.. My problem wasn't that I can't script.. Cause I can.. My problem was it wasn't even a whole 5 minutes yet.. so the l2script person neg reppin me, go fuck yourself.. I've afk scripted (artisan skills only just to master) I play the game to hunt, so why pay to push two buttons and go sit on the couch. It's stupid to me. I've never been caught, and I never will be taken into the lil 'jail' lounge thing. I just love how you can't run a script past a certain time or you just HAVE to be afk scripting.. yea it was like 4-5 a.m. doesn't mean I wasn't at my comp.

There was a policy change that said you didnt need to be at the keyboard while in RT with the artisan skills.. you might be able to contest this warning if that was the case.
