Nerf Guns R Awesome

So I added another nerf gun to my son's collection and we've been chasing each other throughout the house and yard pelting each other with nerf darts all day today. At one point we had two neighbor kids join in with their nerf guns.

So, during one of our breaks I decided to look online to see if there's any other fun models to add to our collection of warfare and in the midst of my search found a site that discussed modding the guns (removing the air restrictors) and increasing the range.

Our ammo of choice is the black tip with the whistle feature.

Upon dissecting a few of the older models and modding the air restrictors in the air chamber we have summarized that pretty much every nerf gun we have can be modified for longer range.

Let me tell you it makes a difference. So much so that tomorrow I'm going by Academy and picking up some eye protectors on the way home from work for tomorrow evenings battle.

I'm so jealous that we did not have these when I was a kid (rubber band guns and the guns that shot the little flying discs) aside from moving up to BB/Pellet guns.

I'm really glad I have a son that I can spend the day chasing around the house playing urban warfare with nerf guns.

I would say everyone because of how much fun we had. At one point we had over 400 darts lying willy nilly throughout the den - it looked like a massacre sans blood.

We have over 2 large (size 13 mens shoes) shoeboxes full of rapid fire and black tip whistle darts.

We also broke out the velcro tipped darts so we could see which shots stuck since they stick to clothes.

We left all the suction tip darts (regular and lumniescent) put away.

Yes, my mother got my son three nerf guns (the pistol ones you show) for x-mas... needless to say, we have a shitton of fun with them in the apartment.

Kid isnt quite tuff enough to cock the guns by himself quickly, but he still has a boatload of fun... and enjoys being shot with them.

I cant wait to buy an uber nerf gun. They had pretty much every nerf gun invented at Google. Fun times.

Its actually easier than I thought. The mechanics are simple once you get into one. You have a trigger mech, air chamber, cocking mech and the projectile receiver aside from the other accessories.

The size of the air chamber is the first factor. The actual chamber seperates from the receiver and thats where you can seperate the two and find the restrictor right inside the chamber.

I'll post some pics showing how I modded the pistols since I have a few more to mod. I'll also post some pics with the rapid fire mods since its likely to be more complicated.

Oh, one other tip - use an electric screwdriver. Nerf uses a shit-ton of screws to hold the unit together.

Some sites actually show folks replacing barrels etc. I'm not there (yet)...

If they are all identical units then check the seal inside the chamber on the retarded one. It uses a simple plunger and o-ring seal design so you might need to add vaseline to create a better pneumatic seal. Also remove the restrictors. ;)

We have three of the ones RSR mentioned. And yes, they win, but they are a bit hard for the little ones to work, so one of us has to take one for the team and follow them around to help.

The biggest problem we have during a nerf war is that anytime there is a lull in fire, our weenie dog runs in and grabs as many darts as she can and runs off to her lair where she shreds them.

For Christmas I gave my nephews each a hand nerf gun (honestly don't recall which) and then we went into the back yard to play. Around the corner before hand I had set up the machinegun nest with two machine guns that were their real present. I run around the corner being chased by the youngest autistic one, and when he came around the corner opened up both machine guns... I thought it hilarious. He started crying. Much happier when he realized one was for him.

Kids are so much fun.

One of my friends was doing physical therapy in a hospital for some sort of injury that I've now forgotten. The nurses had told her to get up and walk from her room to the nurse station and say hello a few times a day as part of her exercises.

No one ever marked down if she had shown up at the station so they kept forgetting and it was really bothering my friend. We got her a Nerf gun, so every time she went by the station she took a shot at the head nurse on duty. They started remembering really fast how many times she had been by on a given day.

That is known as a secondary target. And why you always carry a backup weapon. ;) My dog and 2 cats will vouch for this. My dog (half pit half rat terrier) used to shrug off the shots until I used the modded pistol on him. Now he gets somewhere. The velcro darts work well on the cats because it sticks in the fur and they think something's still got them.

Just remembered that I wanted to respond to this.

I had the same problem with my son a few years back. My solution was taking a shoelace and looping it around the pull/cocking mechanisim. Leave the loop large enough for his foot to fit through it and have him step on the loop and pull the gun up - thus cocking the weapon. Dont make the loop large enough for it to fit around his head though... I dont have to add why not if your kid is a boy. (Because they'll try anything once)

Start your stockpile now. It takes time to make the mods. And you can always use the wife or pets for sighting in after the mods.

I have 3 Nerf guns at work. Two of those pistol six-shooters, and the Recon CS-6. Haven't modified them. Would probably break them if I tried.

The 6 shooters appear to have a shorter air chamber so its a must to mod those. Else they're too wimpy.
