A Mithglin Battle Axe

A tiny golden eyelid, which is closed, is inlaid into the bottom of the pommel, and a faint blue flicker dances around the weapon.
You see nothing unusual, except for a small enchanter's glyph.

You carefully inspect your mithglin battle axe.

After a careful inspection you determine that a mithglin battle axe requires skill in twohanded weapons to use effectively.

It looks like this item has been mainly crafted out of mithglin.

You give the golden eye of your mithglin battle axe a solid poke. It blinks shut and with it the world goes black...
You instinctively blink and when you open your eyes, you find your surroundings have changed.

The Weapon Absorbs seemingly any combat spell that can be targeted (tried it with bard spells, and it did not seem to want to work). it will then use that spell, and the Wielders Skills AND Lores for flaring purposes.

here are some examples with a Nearly capped Empath.

xxxxxx swings a mithglin battle axe at a frost giant!
AS: +339 vs DS: +204 with AvD: +37 + d100 roll: +17 = +189
... and hits for 55 points of damage!
Downward slash across the frost giant's left thigh!
Gouges bone!

... 35 points of damage!

... 85 points of damage!
Powerful blast instantly consumes most of the frost giant! All that remains are bloody chunks of tissue scattered about the area.
The frost giant falls to the ground motionless.
The deep blue glow leaves a frost giant.
The light blue glow leaves a frost giant.
The powerful look leaves a frost giant.

xxxxxx swings a mithglin battle axe at a frost giant!
AS: +339 vs DS: +219 with AvD: +38 + d100 roll: +54 = +212
... and hits for 93 points of damage!
Powerful slash!
The frost giant's right leg is severed at the knee!
A frost giant falls to the ground grasping his mangled right leg!
The frost giant is stunned!

xxxxxx mithglin battle axe suddenly lights up with hundreds of tiny blue sparks!
xxxxxx concentrates intently on a frost giant, and a pulse of pearlescent energy ripples toward him!
CS: +439 - TD: +133 + CvA: +19 + d100: +54 == +379
Warding failed!
The frost giant shudders with severe convulsions as pearlescent ripples envelop his body.
The frost giant is crushed for 50 points of damage!
... 55 points of damage!
Hard strike removes the right eye and a goodly bit of skull!
The frost giant cries out in cold agony one last time and dies.
The deep blue glow leaves a frost giant.
The light blue glow leaves a frost giant.
The powerful look leaves a frost giant.

From testing, it seems you have to be 3x the level of the spell you want to imbue the axe with.

Axe is 5x, THW, Great Axe Base, Has a nice Loresong, 5x a day teleport to a random connected room.

Flares only work if you can cast the spell it's imbued with.

Really fun weapon, and insanely useful to a THW Pure or Semi. testing has shown that for some reason, bard spells won't work in it.

You swing a mithglin battle axe at a lesser orc!
AS: +62 vs DS: +51 with AvD: +38 + d100 roll: +59 = +108
... and hit for 4 points of damage!
Near-miss!
Knuckles kissed but little damage.

Your mithglin battle axe suddenly lights up with hundreds of tiny blue sparks!
That does not seem to work.

Frequency of flares? How often do you have to recast at the weapon?

Belnia

The spell stays imbedded in the weapon until you put something new in it, from what I found out playing with the handaxe when the owner let me take it out for a little while. Loading Spikethorn or Fury into it rules.

Every time I see clips of a blink weapon it just makes the paladin spell list that much more pathetic.

If a warrior used this and it had 635 in it, would his CS even be high enough to hit anything if it is based on skills and lores since he would not have many if any spells?

WRoss
01-16-2010, 09:07 PM
The CS is based off what your CS is.

As for putting Fury in it, don't know how you were able to get something that high into it. It seems that the ability to put a spell in it has some sort of basis to it. The owner couldn't get his 52 ranger to put spike thorn in it.

Belnia
01-16-2010, 09:45 PM
It does have a level component to what spell you can put into it.

As for a warrior using Fury, it won't work. The person swinging the weapon has to be able to cast the spell loaded into it, or the flare won't work. Hasted wizard using one of these and loading a ball spell into it would be vicious.

Bind flares are also awesome.

Jarvan

I estimated a 3x spell level to be able to imbue spells into the weapon based on the spells my Ranger could, and could not get into it. The actual formula may be way different. For capped chars, I can't see why they shouldn't be able to put any valid spell in.

On a side note, I wish I was able to put fury in it. The fact that it uses your CS and lores to determine flare affects is insane.

Was your ranger able to put 635 in it? If so can you post his (or PM) his magical training as far as spells known, harness power, MIU, and AS? Also I'm still interested in flare frequency before I decide to bid. If you want to give me a few logs of you hunting with it I can do it myself.

Jarvan
01-17-2010, 01:57 AM
My Ranger wasn't able to get 635 in it, infact, he couldn't get 618 in it. One of the reasons I am selling it. Will be awhile I figure till I could use it to it's full glory.

Also, if you have multiple chars that are THW (cleric, ranger, empath, wizard, Sorc, or paladin) This is a great weapon for any of them, as you can imbue it as often as you want, even changing spells midhunt.

As for flares, I found that it flared just as often as any other weapon. I will try to find the log of my Ranger testing it, he used.. 607, 609, 610, 612, and I believe 615 in it effectively. May be just a few levels away from using 616, but 635 was what I was hoping to use with it to be Honest.

As for 635, best person to ask for a log is Belnia.

On a side note. If a trustworthy (pc wise) person would like to test it with a class that has not tested it, -My Wiz only tried Immolate, that was fun- we can prob make an arrangement.

Sad about bard spells.. but then again.. if the weapon could do them, it should also qualify as a singing sword type weapon.

Personally I think the three best classes for it are Ranger, Cleric and Empath. Though a haste wizard may come close.

Drew
01-17-2010, 03:09 AM
Jarvan let me use it for a bit and I did some testing; there's definitely a hidden roll involved somewhere, so you may be able to brute force a spell in with enough time, mana, and luck. I was not able to get 635 in and my feeling is that you probably can't until you're capped. I was able to get 616 after 4 or 5 casts, with a level 71 character. So I'm about 4.5x above 616's level with 15 miu, no AS or and 1 SMC. That might help you get an idea if you'll be able to fit a spell in.

Also I'll go ahead and bid 75

On Request, did some testing with a wizard to check bolt and ball spells.

The following is on a level 44 wizard, mostly set up to enchant. Had to train a bit of THW to hit things though.

You swing a mithglin battle axe at a plains orc scout!
AS: +119 vs DS: +103 with AvD: +37 + d100 roll: +97 = +150

A plains orc scout returns to normal color.

After I put 425 on.. and the ball spell formed a Ball. No other critters in room, not sure if it would have hit others.

Axe hurling a boulder.. got to love magic.

Mana Leech

You swing a mithglin battle axe at a tawny brindlecat!
AS: +149 vs DS: +92 with AvD: +36 + d100 roll: +36 = +129
