I had this happen during a minotaur hunt last year. Suddenly I felt like I had gained 10 levels and it lasted a few minutes. Enough to finish the hunt just as it fell off.

Turns out my Adventurer's guild badge had run out.

It's a strange bug but can be fun when it randomly goes off at the right time.
