Hi everyone. I'm looking for some advice. Some time ago I acquired an account with a massive inventory of hundreds of items. I've never done this before and so I'm a bit overwhelmed. I would like to find out what I've got here but I don't know how. The best idea that's come to mind is to roll-up a bard, power-hunt it up to level 10 or so, and get down to loresinging. Do you think this is the best way to do it? Level 10 wouldn't take more than a week. Would it, with a high influence stat, be enough to uncover all the juicy secrets contained within the lockers?

In my experience, my bard didn't get most of the important info with loresinging until around 20 trains or so.

There is a verb testing script you should probably find that'll be useful for finding scripted items. Then break down the equipment into categories... weapons, armor, containers, fluff. If you have a character w/ elemental detection, check all the fluff to break it out into a 'magic' category. Then run the verb script to test for scripted. Go to the adv guild and attempt to recharge anything wearable. This will help you narrow down what is worth getting sung to or not.

kgolfer - Thanks for the tip. The bard I'm building is level 7 right now and I'm noticing the loresinging is pretty weak. I think I'll use your information as advice and abandon the bard building for now. It would just take too long.

Celephais - Awesome recommendation on the script. I just found it and think it will be excellent. The process you described is really good. It will really save a lot of time.

Thanks so both of you.

My level 13 bard can sing to anything she can hold (up to 5x), with the exception of identifying high-level spiritual spells. It's all about the song form at that level.

For weapons and armor haul them all out to the AI crystal. That'll help sort the wheat from the chaff.

Okay, you be the wheat, I'll be the chaff.

Also, posting lists to the PC can help. People here have long memories, awesome Google skills, and it'll help establish which items people are interested in buying.

Finding enhancive pieces among all that can be a bother, as I don't think 405 identifies them as magical, nor does the AI. If you've got a lot of treasure-generated fluff or equipment, I'd go run it by the AdG treasure master. Just hold each piece in your right hand and ORDER 5. He'll tell if its enhancive or not.

Of course, if you got the account more than a couple years ago, its unlikely that there will be many, if any, enhancives.

More great tips. I really appreciate all of you offering your advice. Loresinging at earlier levels, the AI crystal, Adventurer's Guild - all great recommendations.

Belnia - I'm really happy to hear you say that. I think I'll post a thread in the Appraisals folder for anyone that would like to chime in. It could be incredibly helpful.

If you've got a bunch of similar items in wearable containers, wear them, make sure your hands are empty, and then "SORT CLUSTER thingy" and it will bubble them to the top and give you a count of each specific type. I use this all the time with wedges, but it's good for gems too.

This will at least help you get rid of the trash and semi-trash items.

This sounds (possibly) homoghey.

I think if you APP at Kilron's and he says all like, "great power" there's a spell in it, or, like "an interesting magical item" then it means stuff too.

google is always pretty good, just put the item in quotes and watch the magic that brings up results.
