Where are your spells? They'll give you a good boost in DS.

Drop the First Aid, Lore, & Mana control and get 1x in Spells and your Physical Fitness, Armor Use, and CMan up. You want to get at least to 80 ranks in Armor Use, 1.5x-2x in PF, and at least 1.5x in CMan's.

And you might be getting maneuver penalties with the chain. See here: http://www.krakiipedia.org/wiki/Armor_Use <-- shows you need 40 ranks to train off maneuver penalties with chainmail. (35 covers just the RT.) If you aren't using actual CMan's, perhaps put more points in Armor Use to get up to higher ASG's (plate is what you really want to be in... getting up to at least 80 ranks for MBP should be a priority).

Multi opponent combat might be nice, but at early trains, I find it better to train in dodging. Also, with only 2x shield use, you might want to explore a different size shield. You might get more DS from a medium or large shield.

You may want to wear some 4x brig till you get some more armor training as mentioned above.

Being a giantman, you also may be able to fight from advanced stance, adding a significant amount of DS, yet still be able to hit and kill adequately. You should also be utilizing cheap CMANs early on to supplement your spells as set-up tactic for a kill (feint is great!). I run around in advanced in OTF, still one-shot kill everything after a set-up, and only take wounds from maneuver attacks.

Make friends too of other professions - empath and clerics can give you +10 from a 2 mana dim aura. Wizards have Thurfels which will help you some and it costs them only 3 mana cast. Even low level casters of the above can help you out. You can trade a cast of 1601 for it if you must.

What town are you in? If you're in the Landing getting spells should be 0 problem.

well i'm not gettin hit by maneuvers so much as just flat out attacks, i'm in landing and ask for massies often but i go hours sometimes, i'm at 5 second swing time, and i tried with a 5x large shield and had same DS thought that the towers shields were supposed to be the best DS though

A large ogre swings a twohanded sword at you!
AS: +165 vs DS: +144 with AvD: +48 + d100 roll: +68 = +137
... and hits for 16 points of damage!
Weak slash to your lower back!

Your negative Agility bonus might be affecting your DS (the bonus is added straight to DS, I believe)... encumbrance should not be an issue though, being a giant with lots of Strength.

I'd have to agree with the above-mentioned Dodge instead of MoC, too... 10 ranks of MoC should do you fine, unless you really want that extra creature attack.

You should also be using 103, 1605, and 1609 during your hunts. 103 gives you +10 DS, 1605 adds to your weapon's DF, and 1609 aids in your shield blocking.

(If you have the points to spare, getting a few ranks in MIU and getting a friendly wizard to imbed 503 (Thurfels) in a wand and a cleric to imbue 202 into a gem would be very useful, too.)

thanks i'll give that a try...just seems that i hear people saying they have a ton of DS and i can't figure where the heck they are unless they payin the wiz for spells, (in which case i'll never get outa 4x)

Lower strength a little, and tank that influence if you need to so you raise agility; that bonus does add directly to you DS so the negative modifier you have now is definitely hurting you.

Where is the 1x dodge?

Wouldn't 1x in dodge be mostly useless for someone using a tower shield?

Do you have any society bonuses? If you work on mastering Sunfist, they have some incredibly useful skills for Paladins.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but dodge helps DS and EBP as well. You might not get into plate as fast with 1x dodge but not getting hit mitigates.

I don't play a paladin, but I've got a warrior hunting large ogres right now. They hit pretty hard. You complained that you have to stance dance, but... you SHOULD be stance dancing. You're not going to be able to run around in offensive.

Uh huh, so don't use Zealot, right?

Hah!

Who needs to stance dance if your rip their head off in one swing, anyway.

I don't know which large ogres we're talking about, but the ones on the trail between Landing and Solhaven swing like 150 but they swing closed fists. The have no weapons. They are the biggest pussies for Level 14 mobs ever.
