In the spirit of the previously compiled list of archery gear, here is the mostly definitive list of hurled toys.

Auction/Raffled Hurled weapons
============================================

Chain-Spear
--------------------------------------------------------------
- 6x blessable chain spear
- Primarily hurled but can also be swung
- Separating barbed head that can lodge in and be pulled out violently
- Unique UNBALANCE flares that activate and knock the critter down every time when pulled out
- Secondary flares when swung and used in maneuvers such as trip or charge
- Paladin bondable with double plasma flares AND normal flares for triple flares (see example below)
- Can have fourth flare added but will no longer be blessable
- Can be gripped with one hand and shield or two hands for higher DF
- Head can be retracted from anywhere no matter what
- Weighs 6 lbs

These were created by GM Mestys, 3 went out at the Foehn's Promise auction in 1996, and 1 at EG 2009.

Returning Weapons
------------------
"Ye Olde Dwarven Crossbow" -

Basically, its a boomerang. Throw it, it hits (or misses) and returns to your hand. This weapon WILL pull you from hiding.

It can only be handaxe, hammer, quoit, discus, and dagger.

They can have any addition like any other weapon, altered, and lightened.

Created by GM Stealth.

Etheral String
---------------
Released at 2009 EG, it created a returning weapon when attached to a standard type potential hurler (the list above). The string adds a new ability to add +3 AS per HURL cumulative when activated, so long as mana and stamina last. The bonus is activated by raising the weapon.

>raise hammer
You thrust your veil iron war hammer into the air, and it emits a strange glow that trails down your arm and over your chest. The ethereal string connected to it trembles with a sudden surge of power
that begins tugging on your very existence. While activated it provides a bonus of +3 AS for each attack(melee or hurled) at the cost of 3 stamina/3 mana. The cost increases by the same +3/+3 rate for each subsequent attack for an additional +5AS. So first attack is +5 for 3/3, second is +10 for 6/6, third is +15 for 9/9, etc.

Raise the weapon a second time to deactive the AS boost and use it as a normal returner.

>raise hammer
You thrust your glowing veil iron war hammer into the air, and as the luminescence fades, you feel much more comfortable. The tugging on your very existence ceases. Attached to the end of the veil iron war hammer is an ethereal string, wavering in and out of existence with flickering dots of light. It extends from the grip of the hammer and dangles loosely, twitching from time to time of its own accord. The hammer glows faintly with a pale blue light.

Two were released, created by GM Naionna.

Chronomage Daggers
-------------------
A new toy @ EG 2009.

They are 6x each (possibly enchantable) and they "flare" on the same usual flare cycle with a time based attack which gives you up to 3 shots (variable). This weapon will not pull you from hiding. They autoreturn as well normally.

Very nifty scripting as well.

Three were released and created by GM Izzea.

Bandoliers
----------
Bandoliers were created for the WaveDancer by GM Khaladon. The came in a base container with the choice of any non-rare material weapon and common elemental flare. For dubious reasons, the majority chosen were handaxes, though hammers, spears, and amazingly, one bola.

They have been since re-released without flares as well, and with non-standard flares (dagger vests with no flares, the latest at EG 2009 has disintergration flares).

Bandoliers are fully alterable, both in the base description of the carrier (short/show), and the weapon (short/show) and any properties that could normally be applied to a weapon (weighting/flares/sanctification/permabless) though finding a merchant willing to work on them is problematic. They cannot be lightened, but instead are at the base weight for the weapon type upon creation. This weapon will not pull you from hiding.

Further, because of the non-recursive nature of the Premium Point system, they cannot be worked on via the scroll system, but only ingame merchants. At one time several years ago, a merchant came and worked on bandoliers/dual crossbows/shell armor (the only things really that don't work in scrolls) and worked on them for points with manual deductions and a service charge.

Bolas/Throwing Nets
-------------------
For one of the artisan or anflet faires, GM Khaladon created an entaglement flare that did damage and tripped or otherwise slowed the target. He also raffled off a handful of returning bolas/nets. All were 4x/flared base, and only one was sanctified.

Hurled/shard boxes
------------------
Created by GM Thanthyl, load a box with a slab of ore and grind out dart or dagger type shards. There were three different levels of boxes, +5, +10, and sanctified (the plus was in addition to the metal of the slab). These were released on the WaveDancer.

Hurled Containers
-----------------
Been several over the years...

Rocket-sheaths - Could load up to 5 darts/daggers/other small weapons, and tapping it jetted one into your hand. Came out at one fest by Khaladon, and recently re-released.

Kadah's holders - Khaladon released these at the WD, could be worn in various positions and altered themselves to reflect that when worn (a chest-strapped dagger sheath for example).

Other hurled gear:
------------------
Really nothing that I can think of that was dedicated to hurlers other than some sheaths.

A couple of things:

Except for a couple that increase enchant, these weren't auctioned/raffled, but you could add to the list the shard/sliver making boxes due to the niftiness factor: box is worn on the belt and you load it with your metal of choice, turn a crank or some such thing and it creates either slivers or shards, depending on which way a lever is flipped. Shards = daggers, slivers = darts. Not the most practical thing... yet, but with the hurling review, it's possible some items will be substantially more useful in the future.

A bit of clarification on returners: They can have any addition that doesn't take up the scripting slot. So for example, you can't add Ironwright flares to a returner = sad Kerl. Otherwise yes, pretty much any flare, permablessing, weighting, etc.

Of all the returners out there, in my mind currently the best one is Kookie's (formerly Durg's 10x permabless hammer). I think the string will change that eventually, but that hammer is pretty amazing. I tend to prefer blessables (or permablessed) in a returner, simply because I want to be able to use the thing on everything.

Oh, and one other little tidbit on the chronomage daggers: you can stay hidden using a chronomage dagger, unlike all other returners, which makes them uber-cool for a rogue.

I added in previously the hiding issue on the ones I know of.

Yah, I'm swimming in returners at the moment, generally I use 2 hammers (10x perm and 5x acid flare), but i got the 5x fire flare quoit too for variety or as the need arises.

If anyone, ANYONE, ever alters the Dwarven Longbow they should be beaten over the head with a keg until they are a thin red paste.
