dying forged parts...?

I know it's possible to dye forged parts, but can't remember when I'm supposed to do it... I dye after I polish, but before I assemble right? Also if I dye a vultite blade does it keep the properties of vultite? I seem to remember playing around with this once and turning a vultite blade into 0x cause I did it wrong...

I only dyed a hilt, but it was after the polishing process that it worked, I'm afraid to try the blade for fear it will take away the properties of the metal, but for future reference, you can dye (hilts at least) after the polish, and before assembly.

Will try blade on next one and update accordingly.

ok blade results are in, I dyed a vultite blade, and when assembled it is no longer vultite.

After a careful inspection you determine that an elegant purple-hilted black dagger requires skill in edged weapons to use effectively.

It looks like this item has been mainly crafted out of steel.

heh, I just didn't know what to do about it, always appreciate rep though. Though I've played this game for years and years I don't know how to do things like bug, I don't know how to get things altered, don't know what a bandolier is, or how any high end items work, basically I don't know nearly as much as I should about anything. But I can make my dwarf grunt in 40 different ways :P
