What are your reasons for sticking to , . . . and playing GS in the first place .
Is it a replacement to TV?
'' '' Work?
'' '' Friendship?
'' '' Love ( romance, boyfriend, girlfriend)?
'' '' Socialising?
Pray tell . . :D

Abuse... I'm a huge masochist that worries about AIDS and other blood borne diseases. Only reason I can come up with thus far. More later.

When I first started GS it was an escape from reality. It became an obsession and I played 12 out of 24. Now its become a hobby, when I can fit it into my schedule.

I understand all of those replies . . Im a Manic depressive and I just came to a huge capital city to live on my own and get out of the drug abuse I was involved in with 'friends' back home.
Also the boredom would be unconcievable without GS.
I hate TV.

The point of my last post being . . .
I dont have to be completely alone when Im playing GS . . its an addictive drug though . . gotta be careful not to let it stop me getting 'out there'.

TV not enough on to be worth the cable bill so instead I pay for cable internet and surf. It used to be a big time filler while I was in the service. Now I play when I can or when the wife lets me.

It started with a way to play/socialize with a few people I knew in RL over the internet. Then they left. The fuckers. Now it's a bit of an escape.

I only play when Anticor's wife lets me too.

It started as a way to escape, for me.
I have a pretty active imagination, who else would have an archer/polearming/cleric (besides Pudgee, that fucking copycat who ran with it!). Thus, when I need an outlet for said imagination, I play nowadays. My needs in that area are being filled a lot in RL now, so I don't play as much, and when I do, it's become all about RP as opposed to hunting. I hit a spat of about 2 years when my cleric went from 40 trains to 60 trains, but since then, he's trained only 3 times (and was converted to 50 something levels in GSIV)

I dont hunt as much as I used to now . . Sometimes I find Shimm just sitting his ass by an altar fer most of the day praying.
I do love to chat with friends through game too . . and I find being in game is a good excuse to turn on my AIM so then folks I dont play with can chat too.
I dun think I have what it takes to go through another relationship in game but Im currently trying to . . . It is an excellent way to RP.
Whatever happens . it keeps me clean . . and stops me missing the crazy life too much . Besides . . . . Im thinking its time to get on with RP'ing a REAL relationship . . I have them infront of me and havent had the guts to go and do something about it yet.
Pinches himself
Ill get on with it after Shimms next train . . . :(

Because we're all psychologically addicted to it. I should write a paper on my theory...

Even for the mods/posters that don't claim to play anymore... you're still posting on a GEMSTONE message board. Enough said.
Psychological addiction
when my girlfriends not around because of long distance I play alot more, and she plays as well so it kinda works out nice. When were together, I dont even think about Gemstone. So, I think right now I use it to pass the time between work/school/sex.

It started off as something my wife wanted me to try to play ...cos i always said "how can you play that ..it seems so hard ..i could never type or read that fast "..Now a year later i play as often as i can ...even after she stopped playin ...I guess its just a way to interact with people and RP a bit.. Im into RP games alot also addicted to Warhammer 40k and a few other RP games,so its just an addicting hobby i guess .:help::help:

(And yes, I'm joking.) When you have a girlfriend as beautiful as I have... there is no need for porn. Just toys mainly  Also, rarely will two women need porn, the passion and intensity eliminate the need for much of any other stimulation.

Human contact, in my darker hours. Now, it's a hobby.

I play GS as a big hobby, as it's certainly more interactive than just watching TV, or playing solo computer games.
Particularly when I don't have any other better plans than the above.

I played a lot a long time ago and then people started leaving and things started changing in game and out of game and just lost interest. Oh well, maybe I'll get back into it sometime. :?:
I deal with hundreds of people a week in my job. Sometimes I just want to socialize without actual human contact.

Started because pretty much all the guys in my 7th grade class played (I was in a GT program, hence the tendency for us all to be dorks). Played on again, off again since, I've quit for a year or a year and a half at a time then get reeled back in.
Came back for shits and giggles because I didn't have anything to do at work last summer, got addicted again. The urge to play isn't there anymore, but I'm reactivating at the beginning of April to go to a friend's IG wedding. Guess I'll take it from there.
I play it because its an Open Ended RPG and you can never play another MUD Like it...

Heh, and on your terms too. Its great to log in at 7 AM Sunday morning, not having to shave or get dressed, and chat for 3 hours or 3 minutes.

Hi my name is Jeanine and I'm a Gemstone addict. <shows you her GS trackmarks on her arms> I just.. can't.. seem.. to quit.
I always wind up coming back. I've been roleplaying in different games for years, so it was nice to play an online one where there was always someone to roleplay with, rather than waiting for D&D/Werewolf night to come around.
Now I play it when I have the time, in between all my other computer games, my other online games, movie watching (which I'll do at the same time) and when I'm bored, either home or work. It's a nice time filler that includes talking to people and not having to leave the house. Yes it's the ultimate couch potatoe game. :D
I'd love to play Palladium based games with a good crew, but that never happens, there's always a clown in the group, or someone always OOC.
But GS is great and there's ALWAYS something to to do. I stay clear of heavy socializing in game, unless its RPed...
I have too much to do IG all the time, its sickening, in a good way...
PRO Leader, Helping with Town Improvements in Zul, Forging, RE-Designing a Web Site, Storyline writing, Human Culture Writing for Bourth, and helping with various events IG...
On top of trying to level.. And thats just Kneo, my wizard is lower leveled and always has alot of work to do with leveling as well...
But I enjoy it..

I realised the other day that if I wasnt playing Shimm I wouldnt play at all.
I cant stand the idea of starting again both from an RP point of view and also a level one.
I need Shimm to be powerful enough to protect something one day and thats a damn good reason to hunt like mad becouse its all I ever wanted fer him.
one day Shimm = big guy !

I started playing because my girlfriend, who had played years before, got back into it because she was talking often to some guy she knew who convinced her to come back. I joined to see what it was all about, and I eventually came to like it. Lately, I've hardly spent 15 minutes logged in GS in the last three months. I went from premium to basic, and I'm considering quitting alltogether.

I started playing because an online friend was like "Here! It's an AOL game and it's free!" Instantly addicted. :( I still am.. and I don't really have a reason for it.

For me, GS is a substitute for sleep...
It's all my brothers fault, when I was 16 he told me about this game that I HAD to play, that he'd been playing for 6 months and it was free (before AOL picked it up). Of course I played for differant reasons back then, then I do now. I've been hooked ever since. Even taking a forced 8 months off didn't make me stop collecting all that fluff. All these years later and I'm still playing.
Fun is what you make it.;)
Gemstone is a substitute for achieving my goals in life..
Instead of doing work or something that can translate into some real gain in my life.. I log into this addiction. Or if I'm not logged in someone's IMing me or I'm reading the boards or I'm in someway connected to the game. One day I'll put an end to this beast but until then it's just something I enjoy.

Spending money that I don't have. Granted I pay what...33 dollars a month (which is soon to change back to 13 because it isn't worth it) it keeps me at home and away from evil places like Pier 1 and The Great Indoors. We recently bought a home and I could easily blow thousands of dollars on silly chachkis to decorate with but I distract myself by playing GS.
That and it's like virtual Barbie.

I never thought of GemStone as a substitute for anything, but as an addition to other things I enjoyed doing. Finally, there came to be so many things to do that something had to go. ;)
