You suddenly feel the essence surrounding you shift and writhe chaotically!

Okay, someone out there knows the TRUE spellburst formula, I know it. Give it to me. If it proves to be correct I'll paypal you $400.

Not a joke. I am so sick of this damn mechanic I cannot even begin to describe my hate for it.

It was hinted at the different groups ( Square vs. Semi vs. Pure ) had different formulae.

Gibreficul did the most complete research I remember. His running theory was that each rank of magical skills added a certain number to your spellburst total, similar to how different physical skills add to Redux.

Or you could just convert to a Paladin and get lots of cheap magic skills!

In that case I will amend my offer: One that works for Warriors.

Just get more magic ranks. You should be at 101 MIU anyway.

Seriously. I know he has self-chargers.

I hardly play Stun and I still have 101 in MIU.

I am pretty sure he has 101 HP/MIU/AS and some lores possibly.

If no one takes me up on this in the next couple of days, I am going to be in the market for 5 fixskill potions.

Like the Cylons, I have a plan.

Wow. I'll sell you one for 16m so I can buy one for my mage. :D

When I played a warrior, I went by magical skills/3 and found it to be pretty reliable. While I know it isn't the "true" formula (it's entirely too simple), it was reliable and never got me blown up.

You definitely see diminishing returns after a while and eventually it takes more than 3 ranks to equal one point of mana.

stop wearing so many spells@!

but seriously what are you wearing that your hitting the cap?

Drunken Durfin

It is not so much that I am wearing a crapload of spells, but that I want to be able to maximize the returns, as well as having different high-level spell configurations. Say, drop a couple small spells here and add 120 there, safely add mass blurs into the mix.

Just guessing at the math does not sit well with me, especially when I have more than your standard amount of spells at my disposal. If I am hunting the second floor of Nelemar I want to up my TD a bit more. If I am going to be on the third floor then I will push my AS to the max.

Knowing the exact math would be a huge benefit, especially for squares just starting out in these areas that are much more limited in their magical training.

Bounty is now $350.

If I was a GM and saw this thread, I'd totally email you the formula.

magical skills /3 was spot on for GS3, it hasn't worked for GS4.

The problem, and this has been born out by testing, is that spell level != spell value in the formula.

509 does not count for "9" it counts for some other number.

It seems that the more useful the spell, the higher the value. And that professional/major circles are more than minor ones.

I don't think there is a different formula for each profession, that'd make no sense whatsoever considering professions each already have different magical skill training costs, thus being differentiated, and there was no professional bias in GS3.
Here is what I made up some years ago, I never go tmore data, but then Gib took this and ran with it for awhile.

or attached, in tab delimited format

The first thing you have to do is figure out what each spell actually costs. We got far enough to the point where we realized spells had different values. (someone could wear say 22 ranks of one combination, but not 22 ranks in another combination).

Start out with no magical training, put up like 509, enter an area, burst, add 1 rank of Harness Power, do it again, when you no longer burst, you have a value for 509.

Actually start with like 503, 202, etc. Low level spells, then work your way up.

I have lined up several fixskill potions and will begin testing myself next week. All data will be posted here for review/confirmation/debunking/point fun and whatnot. This madness has gone on long enough.

If anyone would like to donate fixskill potions (or silvers to offset their cost) to the cause please send me a PM.

~ Durfin

p.s. The bounty is now $400 if there is someone out there with inside information (THE formula) that would remove the need for me to spend time figuring this out on my own. Offer ends as soon as I begin testing next week, so if you are on the fence, it is burning.

Durfin, hit me up, I'll tell you what I know. I'm still on AIM @ Lord Gibreficul even though all my accounts are currently inactive. I still know my spellburst shit.
