Yeah, yet another thread about switching to pure... I know this is repeat information, but I want to make sure I get this right, so I don't have to blow 7-8 million to fix any missteps. So any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thinking about using my fixskills to switch to pure. Right now my stats as a polearmer are...

Current stats/skills (level 37 - Half-Elf)

Rough idea for pure training plan, based on what I've read in the threads...

(Armor use to 35 ASAP - so I can wear brig)
2x brawl
1x Mental Mana control
1x Manipulation (get to 24 ranks - unravelling, then maybe air lore)
1x Harness Power
1x physical training
.5 Dodge
1x spells (get to 30 bard ranks, 25 MnE ranks, then do all bardsong)

I haven't worked out exactly how many points I'll have to work with yet, but was thinking if I put together a basic plan then I can go in and just fill in the gaps, such as adding a few climbing/swimming/perception skills in the gaps.

Is there anything major I'm missing, any changes you would suggest?

I'll use a two-handed instrument in my left hand until I can get to 75 manipulation ranks. I've seen some people having shield use... is this necessary?

Right now I'm about to finish Guadians of Sunfist. I'm not opposed to doing COL, but I'm curious if there are any other pure bards having fun with Sunfist. I am not interested at all with Voln (no FU for me). I really like having hunting ground near practically every town, so GoS would be my preference.

Thanks

Your stats are pretty bad, but nothing you can do about that without dropping 40 million on a potion.

Below is how I spec'd my bard before I sold it. Absolutely no secondary skills, since all I used it for was purifying, loresinging, and hunting. It owned. Just ask Inspire.

Thanks Sketch. Most of the information came from your past posts.

So, how much damage would my stats do to me? Do you think going to a pure build isn't viable?

Thanks!

You're missing out on an assload of mental TP's which is what you want to run a pure character.

It's still viable, but it will be awhile before you have enough TPs to pick up many ancillary skills.

Overall, your training looks fine to me. The one thing I would do is drop the 0.5x of Dodge and sink it into more spells. Definitely get 430, and the more spellsongs you have the more phantom dodge ranks you get anyway from 1019.

So can I ask what your lvl 0 stats were with this build?

Optimized for growth (89 / 90 in CO and WI at cap, with everything else 100).

Through level 15 or so (during first 30 days of character creation, when it's possible to move stats around), the stats were pretty awful except for high AGI / DEX / STR / LOG. Get a claidhmore, pwn things for a few weeks, and then you can set stats for growth with a little bit of a head start so it isn't too hard to hunt.

Ok so my 30 days is up, I want a bard who can loresing and purify relatively well at, say, level 30. What are the most important stats to boost? Here are the stats now, set for just swinging a claidh, but currently I'm built for twc and moc.

the pure way is interesting, and yes, powerful, but i found it a pain in the ass to unravel shit all the time, when i could just pwn with lance, and if a swarm came up, 1030. one shot is usually all it takes. 1035, and you can finish off the rest of the swarm. man, i miss my bard!

Very tempted to do the same with my bard and would welcome advice and suggestions from those that have done it before.

Current training is as follows and she's an effective hunter in the Ducts or Tower with her own songs, sonics and CoL signs.

Just get 1x HP and use the rest for spells.

If you are running low on mana you can use 1013 on creatures that gen with no spells and leech mana. Use 1018 in the field as well.

You don't need 45 MMC. Migrate that down to 24 ranks.

Shield use?

You also don't need 75 ranks of Air Lore. How often are you going to be using Tonis? Almost never.

I love my pure bard, I wouldn't have it any other way. I don't know why pure bards don't get more manip for the 1030, but it's not necessary of course. Either way, good luck with being pure and just don't let anyone tell you how to train your bard. It's yours and you make with it how you want. Not everyone's going to be able to persuade you to go their way, and you really need to figure out what's best for you. Just go with the basics and remember you have a fixskill coming up in May anyway, so if it's not right you can always fix it later.

Have fun with it, that's what's important! Good Luck!

Here's a glimpse of my Bard, in case you'd like more ideas.

I was really nervous about making the transition but I'm really enjoying her and am quite happy with the way her training panned out. It actually suits her RP a lot more too which can't be bad!

I've kept the Air Lore at 75 for now since her hunting partner really loves the Tonis effect but I'll probably be migrating it away once I've decided where I want to concentrate the training.

I was told Mana Control affected mana regeneration rates, is this not the case?

I was told Mana Control affected mana regeneration rates, is this not the case?

Yes this is true . . . 1 for every 10 in your highest Mana Control and 1 for every 20 in your second highest.

Right now, you're getting 4 extra mana per pulse. With 24 ranks, you'll only get 2 mana per pulse but you'll be saving an extra 126 MTPs or 252 PTPs since you're converting. The only time you really need the mana is when you're out in the field and you'll probably pulse 2 or 3 times at most while hunting. That's a measly 4 or 6 mana difference; it's not even enough for a single shot of 1030. It's just not worth the points.
