A few days ago I got Lich working in Ubuntu 9.10. I haven't had tremendous time to fiddle with many of the scripts, but I did have a Narost question.

I unzipped all of Tsoran's maps into the maps directory, but when I run ;narost only a blank window comes up. If I click randomly on this window my character will walk to a nearby room so I'd like to think narost is working, but for whatever reason I just can't see the map in the window. Any suggestions?

Also, has anyone tried to use Lich in Warlock? The Wizard is nice I suppose but for some reason every time the game window receives text there's noticeable screen redraw, though it's tolerable.

Sorry for the n00b questions, but thanks in advance for any help.

I forgot my other question. While I skimmed the few threads concerning a GUI for various Lich scripts I didn't actually stumble upon whether a GUI was something included, a personal program, or what. I guess I'll plow through those threads in a bit more detail.

For your maps, you'll need to create a maps folder in your Lich folder and extract all of the Tsoran maps to that folder.

In order to use the Wizard you need to put a file named "fakestormfront.txt" in your Lich directory. Lich fools the Simutronics servers and makes them send the StormFront XML so that we get detailed information for our scripts. When you login be sure to use the "stormfront" option and Lich will start the Wizard as long as .txt is in place.

The fakestormfront file is only needed if you're running both Lich and PsiNet and using the Wizard. Being on Linux, it's a safe bet you're not using PsiNet, and you don't need to worry about it.

The map folder should be automatically created by the updater script, and it should also download the correct maps.

That's what I get for opening my mouth.

I haven't heard of this problem before, but it sounds like the correct map image must be there, it's just failing to load it. This could be caused by the accidental update from a few days ago. Try this:

;trust updater
;updater update
Restart Lich

If that's not it, it's probably a problem with your GTK install.

I have used Warlock with Lich, but Warlock seems very buggy. The Wizard usually works very well on Linux. You might need a more recent version of WINE.

I had issues with GTK on Ubuntu as well. The lich game entry worked fine, but any in-game GTK work just showed up as an empty window as you described.

I was on the 'ruby-gnome2' package via apt-get, iirc.

Hmm. I also am using the ruby-gnome2 package, though I got it from the package manager Synaptic which came with my install. Maybe I'll try a different distro, and also try the update. Thanks guys.

The ;trust updater command just resulted in --- Lich: could not find script `trust' in directory /home/me/lich/scripts/!, but I do think I have the latest version of Lich.

I tried reinstalling the ruby-gnome2 package but the same issue occurs. I might try switching to Kubuntu and see if that fixes anything though I have my doubts.

Any suggestions on how to try and deal with the GTK install?

"could not find script `trust' " just means you do not have the accidental update.

I'd suggest uninstalling ruby-gnome2 with your package manager, and compiling ruby-gtk2 or ruby-gome2 yourself. I'm using version 0.19.1.
