I was thinking about learning the skill but was worried no one else used it. I mean other people in the group have to use the skill as well for me to get a AS bonus right?

I don't have it, but I don't hunt in a group with my ranger.

Durg and I were just talking about trying this out when we gain a few levels.
Does anyone know how the amounts for the AS boost and if/when it caps? Seems like it could be pretty awesome for warcamping.

Nobody does, as explained in the other thread.

You get a bonus for being grouped with side-by-side even if your group members do not have knowledge of it, the benefit is just diminished.
It is uncapped, but it is not linear.
Adds to AS and DS, but does not add AS to ranged (because they are considered to be away from the combat).
There has been no extensive public testing of it to my knowledge so the exactities of how it works are still a mystery.
I wanted to try it out, but couldn't convince any of my archer friends to pick it up at the time (now they are all 15 levels older than me, because of how rarely I have been hunting).
I use side-by-side, have rank 5 in it. Very useful. As for figuring out the exact formula, I have no idea. But I wouldn't give it up for any of the other ranger cmans.

Unfortunately, side by side is crap for most rangers. Our two main hunting styles make side by side irrelevant; archers don't get the AS bonus from grouping, and ambushers get pulled out of the group every time they hide. An ambusher can try to stalk the group leader after every hide and before every attack to get the AS bonus, but that's effectively adding an extra second of RT to your attack cycle. Side by side would be useful for open ambushers and mstrike builds, but that's about it.

Maybe when the group mechanics (stealth) are updated side-by-side will be more beneficial.

You're not hide/ambush?
Seems a waste of a profession (and one thats not as well suited) if you aren't.

I stopped ambushing around 45?
Also, Jolena and I had sbs. At 5 ranks for her, and 4 ranks for me. Just us, she gained 15 AS, I gained 12. When Keyvon my mage was with us, Jo/Stun gained another AS.

I play for the entertainment factor and typical paths don't really appeal to me. In pre-cap areas there isn't really any danger factor and even a rogue wearing robes and mstriking with troll-claws can get past level 80 without sweating.

My paladin with 3 ranks of Sidebyside gets 4 AS just for having a caster join him and another 2 AS for having a second pure caster join him. I'll do more testing when he gets his 4th rank.
