Do PP lighten/deepens go beyond the analyize restrictions? Because for 3m you should definatly be getting something already at that limit (so limiting you to altering it).
Erm, anything at the limit will go for a damn lot more than 3mil. I have a few 1/140 cloaks, two of which I have sold for 8ish a piece. I think Inspire sold 1 for 9mil? Not really sure.
I have one of those really old eel skin greatcloaks, the ones that can be deepened a shitload, if yer interested. Lemme know.

Well, the "limit" is a lot heavier than your 1/140 cloak. What you run into by today's standards is not going to be equal to what you can find for a price.
If you want something that is max lightened/deepened by today's standards, (holds about 100/weighs 4), you can get that for a few hundred thousand, (heck, I have one forsale right now). Those last 3 and 40 pounds will cost you dearly if you want them.
All that said, it's a bit ironic that today's standard is actually a lot lighter than yesterday's standard, when pocketed cloaks were all-together rare no matter how much they held.
In any case, it's true. Buy a light cloak for a lot less than the PP's are worth and spend a few altering it, or sell them.

As Archigeek said, the new limit based on the analyze verb is much worse than what could be previously obtained. It's a sliding scale based on weight and deepth as far as I can tell (For example you could go deeper than 100lbs on a cloak weighing more than 4 lbs, but then you would no longer be able to lighten it). These new max lighten/deepened cloaks are not entirely rare as critter drops.

Wait, here's a thought. Sell the PPs and bid the proceeds on my +7 strength medalion! I'll throw in a max lightened/deepend (weighs 4, holds about 100) cloak with a good customer discount.
damn, i didn't realize the PP lightening/deepening was so weak with standard cloaks..
Well hell, someone just sell me a nice light cloak that I can alter and it can be my forever cloak.. I'll pay more than a few mil if it's worth it. Possibly even if it's not.
oh and i might bid more on that medallion, i'm scared i'll let it crumble.

Recently had a conversation with a GM about this. The current limitation on capacity is 140 lbs, regardless of weight. I had a 15 lb cloak, and 140 was still the limit. The lightest a 140 lb capacity cloak can get by today's standards is 6 lbs. Hope that helps.

That's very good info to get, someone ought see if they can plot out the grid of acceptable weights/capacities. Another thing to consider is worn location, I'm not sure if that has an effect on the standard limit.

wasn't someone selling a belt that held 130? I don't think location has a limit.

/facepalm
Please read the rest of the thread.
This is all very disheartening. I guess I'll just lighten/alter/deepen my current cloak and call it a day.
what are those old consolation cloaks going for now?
the hooded black leather cloaks with a shit ton of scripts?

EG09 I had a cloak deepened to 130lb's and it's weight is 4lb's. It now analyzes as not being able to go either direction further. At EG06 I got a cloak to 140lbs @ 6lb's like was previously stated it was then maxed.

I think I sold my last few at like 6-8m. There's on on GSAuctions for like 12m.
i guess a 120 pound gnome holding 140 pounds of crap in a cloak is pretty ridiculous anyway.

levels 2-6 of encumbrance comes at 12 pounds each :(
edit: Once you get past the first level, it's not uncommon to get a box that pushes you up 3 levels of encumbrance as I'm sure you've noticed.
