Yeah and find me the old pirates of the carib by sid meir. I've had a hankering to play it and my files are fucked.

And did they ever find a crack to play Civ multiplayer?

I've said it a bunch of times. Usenet.

Give us a baby guide to usenet then. I read the wiki but was like wtf ever. Torrents were easy mode.

Not saying usenet isn't I just don't know shit about it. I'm getting old Bobbert.

Back in my day we had underground BBS's to get pirate material and we had to change our phone numbers often since the FBI would come knocking.

The super duper baby guide:

astraweb.com, get a subscription (or buy a block of bandwidth if you don't download a ton of shit all the time)

nzbmatrix.com, pay $10 to get VIP access (you can forego this for now if you just want to see what's up, I think you get the last 2 weeks of posts or something free)

shemes.com, get and install GrabIt, add your astraweb account info and start downloading .nzbs of what you want

I ain't paying for shit. That's the point of free distribution isn't it?

If $35 for the first 180 GB of bandwidth capped only by your downstream isn't worth your time, then that's cool, enjoy the frustrations of torrents. It pays for itself the first time you download a $50 PC game.

For what it's worth, in 6 months ($66 in Usenet access + $10 @ nzbmatrix) I have logged 847 downloads among games, movies, TV shows, etc., totaling well over 2 TB.

I can't believe I am saying this, but that's an unhealthy amount of porn.

I have at various times used http://www.giganews.com/, and they're pretty good as a one-stop shop. $24.99 a month, but you get the first two months for $12.99 or something, plus there's a 14 day free trial.

Ultimately, if you find the right mix of torrent trackers, though, I've found torrents to be faster and easier... plus there's zero cost.

EDIT: Having said that, astraweb.com (http://astraweb.com)'s pricing looks pretty good, so I'm gonna sign up for a month with them.

Find me a torrent that I can get 100 Mbps with because I do it all the time with usenet.

I use the Ronco Rotisserie method of torrenting. I find what I want, queue it up, go to bed. In the morning, everything is done.

I don't really do the media thing much but I can see how that would sweet. I usually will queue up some games I'm interested and then whenever they're done I'll test drive em.

So you've got great DL speeds but no taste. Got it. :)

I went to TPB, searched for 'men of a certain age' -- I saw two episodes listed (I forgot this show started) in HD, snagged magnet links for both and got them downloading at 1:07pm.

Download finished at 1:26ish, I wasn't paying attention.

I'm at work... so wtf am I going to do with this now?

Anyway, torrents are fine (and free) for most folks, and works well with normal DSL / cable speeds. Usenet has its niche, too. I'd just hate to be gated by my internet connection on newsgroups. It would make me feel inadequate.

HD source but using XviD. Mine was a 1.2 GB Matroska. The other cool thing about Usenet is people are less willing to trade quality for size.

Hey Bob is the movie "Waiting For Superman" on usernet? I've been looking for it everywhere and can't find it.

No, there's no digital copy of it yet.

Someone pointed out that the Matroska may have been XviD but at least gave me positive rep.

It was H.264.
