What's the trick to making a sheath that isn't restricted to holding just one item? I just made a harness with twenty skins and it still inspects as holding a small amount for one item.

From what I remember the sheaths will always hold one item. You have to use twice as many skins as the weight of the weapon you want it to hold, but it will only hold one at a time.

Nevermind. I was thinking twenty skins was a lot. I'm told fifty is the max.

So it's...

Up to 20 skins = 1 item
Up to 30 skins = 2 items
Up to 40 skins = 3 items
Up to 50 skins = 4 items

?

10 skins per item. A 50 skin sheath can hold 5 items or 50lbs, whichever happens first. Some sheaths can only hold one item, like dagger sheaths. Harnesses, baldrics, etc, can hold 5.

That isn't quite accurate, but it's good for a general rule. There is a wtrick measure command that will tell you how many skins you need to make a sheath for a specific weapon. The number of skins you need will depend on the weight of that weapon (with a minimum of 4 skins, I believe).

All the sheaths weigh the same, and they all take 2 pounds off any weapon (only when worn!), so daggers, etc. are essentially weightless when sheathed.

I use a 50-skin belt to carry a couple of mauls and daggers. I calculate that the whole set adds about 8 pounds to my encumbrance. The belt can carry hold up to five items, and at times I've had three mauls and a claid in there and it's never been too small.
