Does one rank activate all the statistical bonuses to the activation roll? I know if you try to use a magic item with no ranks in MIU, you don't even get an activation roll.
Modifiers = (MIU Skill bonus) + (Activator Skill Modifier) + (Stat Modifier)
+ (Magical Knowledge Bonus) + (INTUITION bonus) + (LOGIC bonus)
- (Spell Level * 5) - (Armor Penalty) - (Encumbrance Penalty)

All I know about MIU is that Aethor told me the more MIU ranks I had, the more cool items I would find.... :club:

You need to have at least as many ranks as the level of the spell you're trying to activate to have any chance at all. So if you're trying to use a 509 item, you'd need at least 9 MIU ranks before you'd even get an activation roll.

ranks count towards duration for things like small statues too.

Gotcha, exactly what I needed to know. Thanks Droit.

The duration thing is key too. Activation is one thing, and sometimes that's all you need, but if you end up with some nice items/scrolls you might want extra ranks to insure the invocation AND increase duration.

I had no idea about the duration part. I was trying to decide between MIU and Arcane Symbols training to bump up my spellburst. I'll now go with the MIU.
